HARARE, Zimbabwe (AP) — Wildlife authorities in Zimbabwe on Sunday dismissed a report of the shooting death of a male lion who was a companion of Cecil, a well-known lion killed by an American hunter in early July.
The Zimbabwe National Parks and Wildlife Management Authority released a photograph of the lion named Jericho that it said was taken Sunday morning.
A statement from the authority said Jericho “is still alive and being monitored” by Brent Stapelkamp, who is following Jericho’s movements with the help of a satellite collar on the lion.

Who knows for sure? That photo could be the other lion. They all look alike.
I think this is a picture of Cecil "the other lion" 9:55. He was recognizable by the black in his mane.
Who cares big game hunting is big business there...Selling baby parts is big business in America and not a word from liberal elites condemning the barbaric practice.
Why is everybody so worried all of a sudden about lions in Africa.

Big game hunting is NOT big business in Zimbabwe. It is a very small portion of the overall economy. Zimbabwe depends heavily on the tourist dollars brought in because of the wildlife. If the wildlife ceases to exist or dwindles Zimbabwe would be in ruins (worse than it already is) and have to depend even more on the US and other countries to survive.
This isn't unique to Zimbabwe but the other African countries as well.
All of Africa and all Africans depend on the US to survive.
Who cares. We'll never go extinct.
They have to thin the lion population like we do deer...Stop being a whiny beta male.
Wildlife is a vital part of the eco-system. Poachers that are luring animals out of their protected habitat is illegal and is a great concern for the animal population. Just as selling baby body parts is a major concern in this country and needs to stop immediately.
I believe mankind's survival is predicated on the animals survival as well. To have poachers and big game hunters killing for the sheer joy of killing and mounting a trophy on a wall is just plain to horrible to put into words. For poachers to sell ivory tusks from elephants and slaughter animal mothers, their babies die and for what???? GREED.
If you have ever been to Africa and seen all these wilderness animals in the wild, you might have a different perspective and not kill these magnificent animals. You can actually see the native animals from jeeps and take pictures BUT NO KILLING.
Wilderness animals and humans need to be treated with respect. After all GOD created both and called them wonderful.
what's an eco-system?
All this hoop-la about this lion , sorry he was killed , but get a grip . We have a leader that has done enormous bad things and continues to do so. We have people who kill each other in Baltimore , where is the media on that crap. Everyday murderers in all the major cities , wtf is this lion getting so much attention?
Two lions shot in another country get more PR than people murdered here every day....Equality?
2 lions in 2 weeks....45 humans in Baltimore alone last month.....so tell me,,,what lives matter????..
11:56 $20 million isn't big for Zimbabwe? What? They get the meat to feed the families, and the dollars stay there. They have to cull the herd and keep population down for their safety as well. GTFOH with your BS.
I just don't understand why people find joy in killing an animal for sport. I understand people that are doing it so they can eat but just so they can thump their chest doesn't make any sense to me at all.
Won't anyone think of the children?
Villages lose residents every year to lions and other predators. At night they are terrified by the sound of a lion's roar. They never know if their child will come out of the bush safely or be passed on the savannah by a lion.
Think of the little African babies whose lives won't end in Cecil's jaws, as well as those he's no doubt already long since eaten. Don't black lives matter?
Think of the CHILDREN!!
