Frustrated Salisbury Business Owner

I am not one to post negative stuff, but I was highly annoyed today when I went to my store and had a citation from the City of Salisbury for grass in the cracks of the Unrepaired city sidewalk.....Seems to me with the crime rate as it is, the city might want to invest more money in law enforcement, instead of city code enforcement......

Does the police issue the grass citations?

the city is a disgrace---ever been over to where Specific Gravity is and how bad the streets are, side walks are all broken.... this city plain sucks

That's because the sidewalk is your responsibility.

Some of you attempting to criticize this article need to clearly understand their point. They believe there are far more important things to address in Salisbury, (like murders, robberies and crime) then to attack the very businesses PAYING TAXES and struggling to survive in a horrible economy.

Crime is way too hard. Handing out fines is easy. Just ask the police.

The city can do multiple things at once, come on people! They don't stop trash pick-up because somebody gets shot.

Just spray some toxic chemical weed killer on it that will eventually get into the river and the bay.

This is just like speed cameras, only used for money making. Code enforcement everywhere should be used only for actual serious safety violations. A little grass doesn't hurt anyone.

No code inforcement. Totatly separate.

If everyone didn't keep a clean area then Salisbury would look worse than it already does. Be mature and pay the fine that you knew would be coming for your lack of upkeep.

Where were these commandos when the weeds were knee high in the road next to Chilis this spring?

To 9:54 ..... I totally agree. I voiced my concern about a matter like this a week ago and was told to mind my business.

It looks like someone dug out a section of sidewalk in order to swap out a water meter vault or line.

Clearly not a property owner's responsibility to pour it back.

If the City took it out, they need to pour it back, and they CERTAINLY cannot issue a fine for that!

Hay, we can't keep eating our donuts, and eating our free meals from Chick-Fil-a, and do police work too, come on now.

Being a walker, I see many properties where yards are deplorable and nothing ever is done. I have noticed trash all over downtown streets. Many properties are boarded up with high grass, bushes and trash everywhere. Take care of these before you go after someone for grass in cracks. (PS Several years ago, everyone is my neighborhood got grass in crack citations. We don;t even have curbs or sidewalks and the crack was on the city road)

City codes are easier to enforce and you have money to pay the fine. I have the same sidewalk at my business and the city will tell you it's your responsibility to maintain the sidewalk.

that would be pure irony if it were to happen
