Oregon Bakers Fined, Silenced for Hurting Lesbians' Feelings

Not only do Christians who oppose same-sex marriage no longer have their religious liberty, they no longer have the right to free speech. At least that’s what an Oregon judge decided in the case of the bakers who refused to bake the cake for a same-sex wedding. Expect the beatings to continue until morale improves because this is what happens when “love wins.”

In February 2013, Aaron and Melissa Klein, who owned the now-closed Sweet Cakes by Melissa, declined to bake a wedding cake for Rachel and Laurel Bowman-Cryer. At the time, same-sex marriage wasn’t even yet legal in Oregon, but no matter — the offended couple filed a complaint.

In January 2014, the Oregon Bureau of Labor and Industries, which enforces discrimination law, decided the Kleins illegally discriminated.

Last Thursday, Oregon Labor Commissioner Brad Avakian issued his final decision on the punishment — just in time for Independence Day, and only days after the Supreme Court endorsed “gay marriage.” The Kleins must pay a fine of $135,000 in “emotional damages” to the couple they denied service.

The alleged suffering included — no kidding — “acute loss of confidence,” “doubt,” “excessive sleep,” “loss of sleep,” “felt mentally raped, dirty and shameful,” “high blood pressure,” “impaired digestion,” “loss of appetite,” “migraine headaches,” “pale and sick at home after work,” “resumption of smoking habit,” “shock,” “stunned,” “surprise,” “uncertainty,” “weight gain” and “worry.”

Clearly, this couple needs serious counseling, not $135,000.

And to add gratuitous insult to unbelievably ridiculous injury for the Kleins, Avakian put a gag order on them. That’s not terribly surprising, given Avakian’s previously stated desire to “rehabilitate” the Kleins and his association with “Basic Rights Oregon,” a pro-homosexual group.

Avakian wrote, “The Commissioner of the Bureau of Labor and Industries hereby orders [Aaron and Melissa Klein] to cease and desist from publishing, circulating, issuing or displaying, or causing to be published … any communication to the effect that any of the accommodations … will be refused, withheld from or denied to, or that any discrimination be made against, any person on account of their sexual orientation.”

The only thing missing was the horse’s head in their bed.

Evil lesbians are mad because they know what they are doing isn't normal so they seek to destroy those who are principled enough to stand behind their beliefs over the almighty dollar.
I used to not care one way or another if someone was gay but I'm to the point that now I have no use for any of them until they can prove to me that they aren't so ashamed of their own lifestyle choices that they seek to destroy those who are willing to stand firm in their religious beliefs.

this is WRONG on All fronts.

So when a Christian and I mean no insult to them even in the affront of their own insulting agenda, comes into say Walmart I can...refuse service in a discriminatory way cuz doing BUISNESS is suppose to be personal...right. Service to the PUBLIC should be racist and segregating in nature...right. The stalemates need to stop, we all have rights to our beleifs. ALL! But to discriminate like this in this day and age .... we don't stone people anymore. Have a bake sale at the church, that's a safe bet you won't be offended by the majority of the outside world.

Hey, any smart small business person can get around serving gays, or maybe make a small fortune on them. You just don't make a public case of it. You do it so they never know they got screwed.
Might make a good deal of money on them also. And they won't ever know they (the gays) got the shaft.

Hope they can get some assistance in appealing this a nd prevailing, including suing the commissioner.

Sarcastic note to close: Their spurned customers couldn't figure out how to bake a cake?

Those women should sue. I hope they win big. If you offer an item for sale in the free marketplace in America, you do not get to chose your customers. End of story. Love really does win. It's unfortunate we have to enact laws so that all are protected equally, but we do....because people are idiots.

3:11 first of all homosexuality is lust not love. Second if you want to open a business and not provide services to a white Christian woman (me) that should be your choice. I would take my $$$ elsewhere. Simple.

Put no price on any item When someone is against what you believe the price you can say is 300,000 dollars. The next price for someone you like is 300 dollars. Nothing wrong for your price is never the same.

In a sane world, either:

A) the bakers judge not, and make the cake
B) the gay couple choose to do business elsewhere

In a less perfect world, either:

C) the bakers make the cake, and pray furiously for the damnation of aforementioned sinners
D) the gay couple declines to do business with judgmental jerks

Lawsuits not necessary.

If the gay couple deliberately went to that bakery with the full intention of creating the controversy, I have no sympathy for them. They're assholes.

If the bakery deliberately refused them service because they are gay, they are assholes, as well as judgmental hypocrites.

What do you churchies think Jesus would have done? I think he would have zapped up a miracle cake for them, presented it to them, and graciously blessed them, even though they "sinned", they are still "his children".

I don't recall Jesus the carpenter refusing to build homes for gay couples.

Hey 3:11
It's about the government forcing someone to do something that is against their religious beliefs. You are such a good coward. May your chains rest lightly on you.

5:07

You might want to add to your response to 3:11

The religious beliefs are specifically protected in the first amendment of the constitution.

The so called queer rights came out of the imagination of a couple lawyers on the supreme court, and I suspect that future courts may correct that mistake.

It's NOT about discrimination it's about a business owner being allowed to practice their religious beliefs. They are NOT discriminating against a person because they serve gays all day long. What they don't want to do is participate in a ceremony in which they believe is wrong.
Everyone who isn't a product of the dumbed down US public "education" system understands this.
2:29 please study up on the definition of discrimination. It would benefit you immensely.
FYI 5:05 Jesus said love the sinner but he NEVER EVER participate in their sins so you can be assured that if a gay couple were to have asked him to build a house for them, he would have refused and there are no if and's or but's about that! He would have refused. He didn't participate in sinning just like these Christian businesses don't want to do.

The problem with these gays is that they are uptight and the reason they are uptight is because they know they are huge sinners and that causes people to be uptight.
Then when these businesses refuse to participate in their sins they really can't stand that because they are being reminded what sinners they are so they seek to destroy.
If they would just say yes we know according to the Bible we are immoral and what we are doing is a sin they would be better people for it and they would like themselves better.
There are many other businesses to choose from and targeting and going after a Christian business shows just what evilness and wickedness lurks in the hearts of these gays. They hate themselves so this is why they seek to destroy others who they envy. So again just admit the sin you are committing and you will finally be free and then you will become a good person.

5:05. God created everyone but not everyone is Gods child.

To hell with all LGBT supporters! If we can tolerate your abomination and sinning then you should leave our Bible and the word of God alone! If you want acceptance, why not try just leaving folks alone especially concerning the word of God concerning marriage?? Your lifestyle, while contrary to natural law and family decency, is your business so leave our business alone and we'll leave you alone.

Appeal, This is blatantly unconstitutional.

7:47. You are 100% correct.

Building a house for someone or baking a cake, is not participating in their "sin".

Just think about all those gays you're "sinning with" then, when you go to work. Waiting tables...entering data in spreadsheets...delivering parts...no different than baking that cake now is it?
