Common sense tells you that if you are not sure, you must ask. If the people vote for an elected school board then it is everyone's responsibilty to see it happens. I am sure there will be a few small but very vocal groups that will oppose it, but majority must rule.
Not saying an elected school board will hold their one employee accountable, but you can vote them out if they won't. As it is, they just say they'd like another term and get it.
I am a teacher and i am in favor of an elected board. I am sick of the wasteful board spending. I make a good salary, and will forego several raises to see spending brought under control. All the spending on new buildings is ridiculous. Fix what we own and then maintain it.
I watched this dog and pony show , most of the group did nothing but insult the council. The big babe who used to be on the board was a joke, made the statement that the BOE was transparent. Joe Hollaway corrected that when he brought up the BOE office rental. One has to wonder why the council even puts themselves through this punishment. Robin Holloway was the only former board member who made any sense.
Sure we want and elected school board - have you been hiding under a rock somewhere. It has been said on this blog over and over and over again for a few years now and now you're asking do the citizens want an elected school board. Geez!!!
oh please let us vote and you'll find the taxpayers are sick and tired of the boards appointed by the democrat governors. We'll finally get the boe spending in line.
The problem with an elected school board is the fact that there is a strong possibility that there will be no one to run for the BOE. I am all for it, but look at Worcester County, Somerset County and Dorchester County. They have all had problems getting anyone to run, then you have to beg someone to run and you end up with garbage. In Dorchester County there is a President and Vice President on their BOE. They are brothers. What does that tell you? No one really wants to run for the BOE in this area. I don't see anything different happening in Wicomico County. We are fortunate to have a Republican Governor so his appointees are very important. Right now Governor Hogan appointed two Republicans on the BOE making it a 4 to 3 Republican majority. The problem is as you have it now Kim Hudson does not act like a Republican. She wants to vote for the Democrat Don Fitzgerald that was just re-appointed. The Republicans should have notified the Governor's Office not to re-appoint Mr. Fitzgerald. This is where they screwed up and didn't use their head so now he may get voted in by the Board as the new BOE President because of his seniority and a lame Republican by the name of Kim Hudson. According to the WCBOE website Kim Hudson's term expires in 2016. I would strongly encourage the Republican Central Committee to work on getting a new appointment to replace her. Keep and eye on her and see how she votes on July 14, 2014 for their annual re-organizations meeting.
Nothing against an elected school board, but we have a Republican Governor so take advantage of that while we can.
Is there really a grass roof on one of the schools in the county? Somebody said there was one, but wasn't sure? Shouldn't that money have gone for something better?
Kim Hudson needs to sit down and shut up. I'm sick of her mouth at budget meetings repeating the same old tired message she used the year before. She really needs to put her energy into appropriately solving and spending money ear-marked for the classroom instead of building huge schools at a cost the county can't afford nor the few of its working citizens.

When we vote for an elected school board be sure to vote against Jim Mathias for not representing the wishes of the taxpayers.

I want an elected school board and the Council needs to put it to a vote and uphold what the citizens want. Get It Done!

An elected board would be dominated by the parents and teachers, so it would be worse than what we have now.
