Record 12,202,000 Black Americans Not in Labor Force

(CNSNews) - A record 12,202,000 black people were not in the labor force in March, as the participation rate for this group declined over the month to 61.0 percent, according to data released from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS).

According to the BLS, the more than 12 million black people not in the labor force in March means that they did not have a job or actively seek one in the past four weeks. The number climbed from 12,122,000 in February to 12,202,000 in March, an increase of 80,000.

The labor force participation rate for this group, which is the percentage of the population who participated in the labor force by either having a job or actively seeking one, declined from 61.2 percent in February to 61.0 percent in March.

The unemployment rate for black people in March was 10.1 percent, which is nearly double the overall national unemployment rate of 5.5 percent. Last month, the unemployment rate for black people was 10.4 percent.

why work when .gov gives you everything and more?

These numbers are cherry-picked and others left out to give the most doom and gloom possible. A more comprehensive approach to the data is necessary to give a more accurately representative view.

10:24 AM As a statistician you should be able to better enlighten us on this. Nothing too surprising here as far as I can see

Doesn't surprise me a bit.

Does anyone have a figure on how many blacks there are in America and how many should be of working age?

10:24 msm doesn't report these numbers, the real truth hurts

10:24 BS. How's the hope and change working for you now.

Aside from:

How many don't want to work?
How many could attend an interview?
How many could survive an interview?
How many would actually continue working after they find out they're making less than they would be given on welfare?

Please close the border!
Please reform the handout system!

After these two are accomplished, shut down welfare to bare subsistence - if you buy an Iphone or 22" rims, there isn't enough for food - and you get disqualified!

The jobs that the illegals previously did will be all open to the 'former' welfare recipients....

Then check the numbers again!

"Not in labor force" can mean too legitimately disabled to work. Take those numbers out, as well as those who are not enrolled full time in an accredited school towards a specific degree, and that's the number of lazy, self-entitled dirtbags who drag down the economy.

Actually...I need to check whether welfare recipients are even counted as "in the labor force" or not. I thought they weren't counted either way, just "other". So the numbers may need to be adjusted there.

Either way, it's a national disgrace. There's an old saying "idle hands make the devil's work", and we can certainly see the truth in that.
