SAFE STREETS CASE: Gerard Dennis Sentenced to 65 Years for Home Invasion

On October 23, 2014, Gerard Dawson Dennis, age 19, of Wicomico County, Maryland, was sentenced by a Circuit Court Judge to 65 years in the Division of Corrections for the Armed Robbery and related offenses that occurred on October 4, 2013, in the area of 1029 Adams Avenue, Salisbury, Wicomico County, Maryland. Dennis received the maximum sentence for Armed Robbery, Burglary 1st, and Assault 1st. He received consecutive time on the firearms offenses that will be served without the possibility of parole. Dennis was also sentenced to an additional seven years on Violation of Probation cases to be served concurrently to the Armed Robbery. Mr. Dennis had a significant juvenile record as well as a “major” adult criminal record (as this term is defined by the Maryland Sentencing Guidelines).

Wicomico County State’s Attorney, Matthew A. Maciarello remarked: “This offender seems dedicated to breaking the laws of our State, and during his most recent crime he violently assaulted a man in his home. The Defendant was armed with a handgun despite the fact that Maryland gun laws prohibited him from possessing one due to his previous convictions. The State is thankful that the Court handed down this tough sentence to this repeat offender.” Mr. Maciarello also commended the Salisbury City Police Criminal Investigation Division, including Det. Popovich and Det. Caputo for their work in the investigation and prosecution of this case. Mr. Maciarello also thanked the citizens of Wicomico County who sat on the jury and Senior Assistant State’s Attorney, Kristen Schultz, who prosecuted the case.
