Why Won't WBOC Challenge The Wicomico County Sheriff's Office Overtime?

This evening on the 6:00 News Broadcast WBOC did a piece on the Worcester County Sheriff's Office Overtime pay.

Well, IF you thought that information was overwhelming, YOU should hear the figures from the Wicomico County Sheriff's Office!

Come on WBOC, start actually "SERVING" the community, (like you claim) instead of COVERING UP the truth and facts.

Well.... we are waiting?

WBOC is to busy promoting itself to be bothered with covering local news. To much coverage of news not even in broadcast area. Don't forget... They are "Demarva's news reader".

Mike Lewis is out of control. Rick, the county executive is afraid of him. Mike is never in town but you keep making excuses for him. You got what you deserve. Someone should really look at their crime stats, it will be an awakening.

No wonder this county has money problems. What the police is making is out of hand. The cops are making more then most of the people working and living in the county. I guess the military doesn't make that much and the risk are higher in war zone.

Time for change

@7:52..You have got to be kidding! You think cops make too much money?!? Why don't you put your life on the line every time you go to work, and have thugs just waiting for you to look at them the wrong way, so they can scream for attention that they are the victim. I wouldn't be a cop or a first responder these days if it paid $100/hour.

Someone has to take the place of officers on vacation, sick leave, days off, accident leave, etc. It is actually less expensive to pay overtime rather than hire extra officers.
But then there would be people complaining that there were too many officers.

Overworked, under manned police agencies. Nothing new. They deserve every dollar they make to deal with todays out of control public.

8:22 I guess you think its ok that Mike Lewis deserves to make 90+ grand a year, cuz I surly dont

police officers in this county deserve the public support for putting their lives on the line everytime they step out of their homes. I wish everyone could just ride with a deputy one day & see what they deal with on a daily basis. Would you like to be threatened everyday? Shot or stabbed? Spit on? Threatend by the criminal that "I will kill you & your family"??? Support our law enforcement officers; in this county chances are you will need them one day & I hope they are their to save your life!!!

There's NO DOUBT Officer should be respected. I will say however, you chose your career.

Here's what I personally feel needs to be exposed.

There are a select FEW that are ALLOWED overtime.

More to come...

9:58 What is your feeling about those soldiers and marines that have been fighting in afghanistan and iraq for the last 10 years making 1/2 to 1/3 the pay of these local police and not being home for 6 months or more. I guess we should triple or quadruple their pay.

Corporal Lee Stevens for Sheriff. Leadership. Integrity. Crime fighter. He has forgot more about police work than most people ever knew!

Not to change the subject, but nothing has been reported regarding the high speed chase that ended with a wreck at the intersection of Church and Truitt streets.Tied up traffic for a long while.

That's the same in the business world you should know that Joe...some will take it when ever asked and are glad to get it... others don't want to work OT and complain about those who do. Tell them to put on their big boy pants.

There are street cops in Worcester that make more than Mike Lewis.

Here's a crazy thought: Overtime is saving the taxpayers money!

Rather than having to hire additional personnel (time, salary, benefits, pensions etc.), we just pay 1.5x for overtime a few hours every week. The officers like the bigger paycheck, the PD gets what they need to get done, and the taxpayer actually wins.

I don't know if this is what happens at SPD, but this certainly seems reasonable to me!

It's obvious you are not a kop or an emt. That would also explain the fallacy you believe about kops putting their lives on the line every day. They are nothing more than babies and bullies. You seem scared of your own shadow and need a uniformed thug to protect you. Most of us do not.

And we certainly do not need kops dressed for combat and riding around in armored vehicles. Bunch of girly men playing soldier. Go enlist if that's what you want to do.

Greedy double dippers fleecing the budget.

Don't forget the detention center massive overtime.

There are a Select few in other departments of the county also who are selecting there starting times in the a.m.and getting overtime whenever it deems feasible to themselves.

OMG. Kops do NOT put their life on the line every single time they go to 'work'. They rarely, if ever, face any dangerous situation. Unless you count speeders and seatbelt violaters.
