I was there when they begged the Mayor and Council to hire the 12 Firefighters through a grant.
I watched Mayor Ireton, Debbie Campbell, Terry Cohen and Tim Spies call each and every one of you out saying that IF they went ahead and hired these 12 people, IF the funding was NOT there these 12 Firefighters would have to be let go. The CHIEF AGREED. They refused to RAISE TAXES to keep them on board.
The CHIEF stated that it would NOT be a problem because in FOUR years when the funding ended there were at LEAST 12 Firefighters RETIRING, THEY LIED!
Shame on ALL of those Firefighter bad mouthing the Mayor for NOT being supportive. You were told right out of the gate what would happen and the day has now arrived. RETIRE 12 Firefighters or shut the hell up. You got what you WANTED, NOW BE ACCOUNTABLE.

We all new it was a big waste of money to begin with. Maybe the far fighters can sell that waste of money far boat and use the money for salaries.
Why should the COUNTY have to PAY for SALISBURY???? If ANY TAXES are to be RAISED make it CITY TAXES that only CITY RESIDENTS PAY! I personally am SICK of PAYING for something that I don't NEED! I DON'T NEED ANYTHING FROM SALISBURY!!!!

If he is working today it proves that even the City Administrators position isn't even needed. What a waste of tax dollars when you have paid firefighters and the City Administrator killing time on Facebook. Makes you wonder how many other city employees are killing time on Facebook or playing Solitaire?
See Jimbo you were told that Rick Hoppes was the wrong choice for your department head. You had the perfect person for the position and then you turned around and stabbed him in the back. It's very obvious that your Rick Hoppes is putting the firefighters up to this. Hopefully they will call, text and email you every minute of the day until you stroke out.
Concerned Citizen, if anyone has any hate issues it's clearly you. It's called that old "told you so" theory. It really pisses people off. They hate hearing "told you so" and this makes it so angering.
The truth is the truth Concerned Citizen and while I know the truth sucks, the 12 firefighers were sold by the story that many current firefighters were going to retire or leave.
The blame lies with the council members and others who fell for the baloney and pushed for the positions.

to change the subject a bit; can someone tell me how much we spent on this new "transportation" recently purchased (or approved to purchase) to take the SU students back and forth to "downtown" bars and night spots until 2 a.m. on the week-ends? not sure I have all the info correct; but would like someone to tell me more because it seems like a waste of tax dollars. in addition; it certainly is not looking like better places to visit, like berlin, st. michaels, Easton, snow hill and more. thanks

No one says that fire trucks have to respond on any ambulance call except Rick Hoppes and he is putting lives in danger by doing so. Run over my child and I will personally take it out on his fat ass.

Tower 16 is responding to Patterson Avenue on the ambulance chase with 22D. That means that the Salisbury Fire Department has 2 paid fire crews on duty at Station 16 on Cypress Street. It took them long enough to decide if they were going to self dispatch themselves or not. That's right 2 paid fire crews on duty tonight getting paid tonight getting paid to sleep when they aren't self dispatching themselves. Well it's getting dark now so that will probably be the last ambulance call they self dispatch on. Gotta get some rest so they can work their other full time job tomorrow. Gotta pay for that brand new sports car and jacked up pickum up truck. 22D is another fat overweight fireman that goes by the name of Wismer. I saw him on his laptop earlier today trolling on your blog. I am sure he is one of the ones bashing you on here.

How do you know they are begging Jim Ireton for more funding?

A couple of things to keep in mind. The paid firefighters, esp. the 12 free grant money firefighters, don't live in Salisbury therefore they don't vote or pay city taxes. Problem solved.
We pay for alot of sleeping! Many work 24 hours on (which they can sleep after 11pm) and then off 3 days etc. Why not have 8 hour shifts and have them AWAKE!!
Someone should ask the Mayor why the city of Salisbury has rescinded a first response agreement between the Salisbury Fire Department and the airport. This means the airport no longer funnels money to the city for being on call and providing their firefighters with free training. Good looking out mr. mayor. As for your new puppet chief...Well his name was the one signature that was NOT on the agreement. Better that Parsonsburg fire department gets the money and training anyways, they won't piss it away like Salisbury City can and does.
