Salisbury Fire Department Invites Public to Annual Open House

The Salisbury Fire Department will be opening their fire stations to the public for an Annual Open House in recognition of the 142nd Anniversary of the Salisbury Fire Department. The open houses will be on Saturday, August 16, 2014. Station 1 at 1100 Beaglin Park Drive, Station 2 at 801 Brown Street, and Station 16 at 325 Cypress Street will be open to the public from 10am to 4pm.

“We encourage residents to get an up-close look at their neighborhood fire stations,” says Fire Chief Richard A. Hoppes with the SFD. “We are a staple in the community, and this is a good way to connect City of Salisbury and Wicomico County residents with their local firefighters and emergency medical technicians.”

At the open houses, the public is invited to come out and talk with members of their fire department, meet Sparky the Fire Dog, get a Station Tour, receive a free blood pressure check, face painting, moon bounce, see a fire prevention trailer, and a dunking booth will be on site. Refreshments will be provided by the Ladies Auxiliary at Station 16.

There will be interactive events every hour on the hour from 10am to 4pm including; Auto Rescue, High Rise Demo, Fire Extinguisher class, Rappelling Demo, Cut the Roof, and a Layperson CPR class.

If you’re interested in becoming a volunteer firefighter or EMS associate, stop by and let us know who you are. The public is encouraged to go to the Salisbury Fire Department’s website, www.salisburyfd.com for more information or contact the SFD at 410-548-3120.

HATE the new icon "bury".

If that stupid sticker is now representing the SFD instead of just the stupid downtown plans, they can kiss my support goodbye.

Maybe they will tell me why they need to take a huge ladder truck out for a trip to the Giant food store for milk.

Barf!! Rick Hoppes is just sucking up to the public. Getting ready to give them the shaft with that new station for Station 2. The station that will cost twice as much to build than it does to remodel and brought back up to code.

Oh and don't forget about Gordo's mysterious reappearance.

I have a really good idea.
We have very few real fire calls for the Salisbury fire Dept. , having said that , we should have 1 building dedicated to fires , a small one at that.
Next , we can use the rest of the buildings and firemen for a immediate medical care facility for treating people . This would save us a ton of money and justify the existence of all these paid firemen.
It would also take some of the load off the emergency room at the hospital.
A greater percentage of the people who use the emergency room can't afford insurance , so it's a win win situation. This would create immediate productivity , instead of passing the buck to another rip off like the hospital.

I'm with anyone who hates the new "icon". "Icrap" is more like it. I was born here, used to be proud of it. No more. it's more like da hood than it is the Salisbury I know as my home. It's demeaning & disrespectful. We won't get better as a community as long as we coddle to the "dumbing" down constituency. If you're not from here...TFB go rename your own hometown.
