Family Of Man Killed In Accident Outraged After Plea Deal

Outrage from the family of a Virginia man killed in a car accident after prosecutors offered a plea deal to the Maryland driver who caused his death.

Derek Valcourt explains the victim’s family says they’ve been wronged.

At first, prosecutors said they could prove the defendant was texting while driving but the victim’s family says that driver is now getting away with little more than a slap on the wrist.

“I’m mad. I’m really mad,” said the victim’s grandmother, Carol Meloy.

Yeah I would be more than alittle pissed off for the court to tell me that my child's life is only worth $500. What a slap in the face! What did she learn? Nothing, I bet she still uses her cell phone while driving! What a waste of such a young life!

If you read the very end of the article it says she was pulled over not long ago for going 30mph over the speed limit. They should lock her up.

Everybody wants to bash the police and says this is a stupid law UNTIL they become a victim or their family becomes a victim and then they want this law enforced. Above comments, You start taking away freedom of the people commit crimes and disobey the lay with NO light punishments, they will start to obey. People are so used to getting fines and light punishments that they are not learning from their mistakes. Take their freedom and rights away!

No I dont think they are bashing the police. The sad fact is our prosecutors base all on wins and loses like a sporting team. The victims fall prey to the egos of young arrogant attoneys. Does anyone remember the word JUSTICE. Justice for all what a joke this has become. The victims are on trial because no one fights for the rights of victims of violent crimes anymore. It has become a dog and pony show. I think we need to get back to fighting for justice not wins and losses.

Right. Why have any laws if they aren't enforced to the fullest extent the law allows. When someone gets away with a slap for killing someone, it's not a deterrent for others to not take a chance and text.
