Troopers Investigate Accidental Shooting at the Fairview Inn

Location: Fairview Inn, 1051 South Market Street, Wilmington, DE

Date of Occurrence: Sunday, February 16, 2014 at 9:50 p.m.

Suspect/Charges: Jeffrey Lewandowski-44 of Wilmington, DE
Possession of a Firearm if Previously Convicted of a Violent Felony
Reckless Endangering First Degree (2 counts)
Active Warrants have been filed pending formal charges and arraignment when medically cleared and released.

Victims:
24 year old female from Wilmington, DE
30 year old female from Wilmington, DE

Resume:
Wilmington-Troopers are investigating an accidental self-inflicted shooting last evening at a Wilmington area motel room, which has left 44 year old male hospitalized and facing charges.

Preliminary investigation has determined that the incident occurred on Sunday, February 16, 2014 at approximately 9:50 p.m. as Jeffrey Lewandowski-44 of Wilmington, Delaware and two female companions were in a motel room located at the Fairview Inn on South Market Street, south of the City of Wilmington. Lewandowski was handling and displaying his handgun, spinning the .22 caliber revolver around in his hand and finger. The gun discharged sending one round into Lewandowski’s leg.


Lewandowski was transported to the Christiana Hospital Trauma Center where he was admitted with non-life threatening injuries. The 24 year old female and 30 year old female both of Wilmington, Delaware were not injured.

Further investigation and interviews revealed that Lewandowski was a convicted felon and prohibited from possessing a firearm.

Troopers have obtained active warrants as listed above. Lewandowski will be formally charged and arraigned when medically cleared and released from the Christiana Trauma Center.
