An aquarium that opened its doors to visitors in 1885 is closing its doors in the nation's capital.
The National Aquarium is closing its Washington location after the last visitors leave Monday. Officials announced in May that the aquarium must move out of the U.S. Department of Commerce building due to renovations.
The 1,500 animals will be moved to other locations, including the National Aquarium in Baltimore, in the months ahead.

While I do not like to see anything promoting culture to come to an end, the National Aquarium has been in decline for some time. Also when you compare the National Aquarium to Baltimores is is like comparing Salisbury to NYC. They are in completely different categories. If I would drive to DC and stare at an exhibit on pare with what is in most Asian dining establishments, I would surely drive an additional 45 minutes to go see one of the best examples of an Aquarium in the country.
If it was anywhere but DC I would say it is a shame. But DC does not have a shortage of things to see and do.
As someone who lives in DC, I'm glad that it's closing. It's almost shameful how it compares to the likes of the Georgia or Baltimore aquariums.
Gonna miss that crack-smoking shark. Wait...I'm thinking of something else in DC...
445-lol Marion is still 'representin' a ward.
3:11-I agree.I would never belittle Salisbury by comparing it to New York.
