Md. Imposes Fines On Casinos For Underage Gambling

HANOVER, Md. (AP) -- More than two dozen instances of underage gambling at Maryland casinos will cost casino operators tens of thousands of dollars in fines.

A consent agreement signed last week by gambling regulators and earlier by Maryland Live casino marks the state's first financial penalty for underage violations. Under the agreement, Maryland Live agreed to pay $20,000 for four incidents of underage gambling. Soon Hollywood Casino in Perryville will pay $10,000 for two similar incidents.

There have been 30 known violations of underage gambling this year. The state can impose a maximum fine of $5,000 per incident.

This gives me a chance to vent on something that has always bothered me:
Just like drinking underage at a bar, these 30 people KNEW that it was illegal to be in the casino. They devised some sort of scam to get in the place and break the law. In doing so, they put the licensee in jeopardy of losing their privilege to operate - or in the case of a bar, to lose their license and livelihood.
They KNOWINGLY came in to skirt and break the law. Because of this premeditation, I have always strongly felt that the operator should have the right to sue these people for putting their business in jeopardy.
Am I wrong on this?
Personally, I've known some excellent bar/club owners that that diligently card EVERYBODY and still have received citation(s) for serving somebody with a really good fake ID drinks.
The person they served gets a ticket. The owners are stuck with fines, hearings, and possible revocation of their license.
Something should be done to the people that break the law!
Your thoughts?
