Un-Marrying Maryland

A growing number of western Marylanders are saying they want a divorce from their state.

It’s not that they’re after bitter revolution and bloodshed. But they say they’re fed up with Maryland politics and want a fresh start for Garrett, Allegany, Washington, Frederick and Carroll counties.

The talk of secession is happening on a Facebook page that had topped 620 “likes” by Thursday and featured dozens of postings from Maryland’s dissatisfied customers. A sample from a July 23 posting by the group: “We must come face to face with those in Annapolis who are oppressing us under one party rule. And I say to them as Moses said to the Pharaoh, Let My People Go!”

Sounds like everyone is fed up with Annapolis and Baltimore....

If they were a separate state, the rest of us might be happier.

can you share a link to the page?

This is quite interesting, especially from an Eastern Shore standpoint. Those of us on the eastern and western parts of the state don't fit in well with those in the middle, who outnumber us and control us.

I want a fresh start for the eastern shore. Maybe we should jump on the bandwagon and leave the central bastion of liberalism to fail just like Detroit.

There once was a time I could never see myself living in Delaware but as crappy as MD politics has become I wish the Eastern Shore could be absorbed by Delaware.

Wasn't that long ago the shore wanted to secede also. What is it about the western part of Maryland that pisses off so many people?

I wonder if we could send the rotten mid section of our state packing and mesh them with D.C. where they would be more compatible. then the western and eastern shore could come together and live as the founders intended. sounds good to me...

IMHO this is the only way democracy and the American dream is going to survive. Smaller more analogous jurisdictions, with their own laws, in control of a legislature more localized and resembling their way of life.

The Conservative, gun-loving Eastern Shore needs to follow these people's suit.

Agreed... No taxation without representation!

folks you need to put the Baltimore area, Annapolis areas, under the DC umbrella and make dc a state and leave the eastern shore and western Maryland the state of Maryland. that way all the folks who voted for Obama can live with what and who they voted for and omalley can got with them.

I happily divorced Maryland for Florida,a republican state with good jobs,no state income tax, great year around weather, weeks ago when you were all roasting up there we were in the high 80s down here. From the eastern shore to the western shore the state is a mess and I am very happy I left.

Oh but the precious income from the beach market is the reason why they will not let the Eastern Shore go.

I am moving my family back to Florida. Moved back from there 3 years ago, when my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer. I am an HVAC tech by trade and have been laid off from 4 jobs since I've been back. Currently laid off...with no work in sight. I have my old job back when I get there......can't wait to leave this hell hole.

You are exactly right about Ocean City. However, we the people still have a voice, for that voice to be heard we must band together and get loud in Annapolis, with our so called representatives that keep selling us out.
