Rep. Donna Edwards: Economic Boycott Of Florida Over Zimmerman Verdict Could Backfire

A member of the Congressional Black Caucus moved Sunday to dampen calls for an economic boycott of Florida in reaction to the Trayvon Martin verdict, saying the effort could wind up hurting black communities.

“I think that many of us understand that sometimes when we call for those kind of economic boycotts, the impact on some of our communities can be really tremendous, and so I want to examine that first,” said Rep. Donna F. Edwards, Maryland Democrat, on “Fox News Sunday.”

In an interview last week with CNN, the Rev. Jesse Jackson called Florida an “apartheid state” and said he would weigh launching an economic boycott if the Justice Department does not file federal charges against George Zimmerman, who shot Trayvon during a scuffle last year in Sanford, Fla., but was acquitted by a jury of second-degree murder charges.

Here's an idea: why don't all blacks really boycott Fla. and move out?

Better yet, why not just move out of this country? You have it, oh, so bad here, go where you will be appreciated for the people that you are.

I won't suggest any country for you to move to, I'll leave that up to you. You hate white people so much, you think white people keep you down, persecute you, disrespect you so much.

Why stay here? It's quite obvious you are not happy here. Why endure the suffering any longer? Just move en masse to wherever you want to go. That would send a much stronger statement than rioting, looting, killing and stealing.

You will no longer be around to be hated and targeted. Make yourselves happy and JUST MOVE.

Why don't they just let the law be the law. And why doesn't Obama come forward and put a stop to it? I truly he wants the unrest or he would step up to the plate NOW.

i hope they boycott fL. Less no tippers the better.

Not a problem. Maybe all the food stores will stop taking SNAP cards. That should do it.

Of course it will backfire. I'm making sure to go to Florida at least once this year as support for a state that supports the right to defend yourself. The trial is over, get over it. How about the hundreds of blacks killed by blacks this year especially in BHO town (Chicago)? Where is all the outrage over that? As the communists always say "Don't let a good tragedy go to waste" for promoting societal upheaval and furthering of the communist agenda.

Md. State Rep. Donna Edwards (D); I give you credit for showing some common sense. thank you

And I, (Liberal Democrat) take back that undeserved credit, because my common sense says that you, are only trying to further yourself/your carrier with black against white racism, all on the backs of a dead kid and a guy just trying to stay alive. YOU, Donna Edwards, are a user of black people and tragic circumstances, just like your double named, serpent talking king Barry Obama Sorento. Where were those cries for justice when O.J. was acquitted? Not a racial sound did you make! Why? Because you are a certified racist, that who you truly are, a Black Racist. While those of us that accept the findings of a court of law, big mouthed racists like yourselves try to override that process, not only with your lack of information regarding the facts, your lack of knowledge regarding the law and your predisposed racial stance of hatred of whites. You did all of this, Maryland State Representative Donna Edwards, knowing full well the details that the jury never heard, the kid was a doper and a wannabe thug, yet you still charge on because you hate whites, period! You should be removed from office as well the President of the United States for your pro black/white hating stance. We see how your hatred manifests itself in the positions you've chosen and we don't have to wonder at all, how you affect our laws with your voting, racist! You and Obama should be removed from office on monday morning. You're haters, not even minded politicians.

At the Trayvon Vigil in Salisbury and from the Daily Rag:

"Warren White reads the 13th Amendment to community members at Saturday's vigil in Salisbury."

WTH does the vigil and Trayvon Martin have to do with Slavery?

In answer to 431's question:

Because this is our country too!! Last I checked, plenty of us and our families and have fought and died for that American flag throughout this nation's history.

436, do you say the same to anti-abortion protestors? How about those who rally in states that allow gay marriage?

yahoo. i will know to vote against her in the next election...lol

"WTH does the vigil and Trayvon Martin have to do with Slavery?"

Nothing 12:02. They keep on flogging that dead horse as a way to avoid talking about what the real problem is. It's called deflection. Everyone can see how well that's worked. The African American communities are a mess.
They need to get a spine and some guts and tell it like it is-Trayvon was not unlike 1000's of other young black men headed on a self destruction path. Slavery has nothing to do with it and if anyone still blames slavery they need to see a mental health professional for their dwelling issues because anyone who dwells on something that happened before they were born is nuts.

So she wants black people as well to suffer.

To all the good hard working Black people out their I feel sorry for you having stupid people think they should speak for you.

I have a plan to boycott Md. State Rep. Donna Edwards (D). Matter of fact, anyone on record for gun bill, or any opinion of this case. Boycotted. I should probably just boycott MD all together, much easier.

And I personally believe there are a lot of them. I see them everyday when I go about my business whether it's the black lady working in one of the many offices I frequent daily or the black man who delivers our UPS. Or one of the several black persons who volunteer at the places I do.
It also evident by the low turnout at this past weekend rallies nationwide. I believe Miami had the most with approx. 300 attendees. LA barely had 100 as did one other large city. 20-30 was about the norm. I believe they were a failure because people of all colors want an honest debate and not something clouded with myths and lies swirling like this whole thing has been.
