A Letter To The Editor 7-23-13

Mr Albero,

I dont know if you will post this or not and I certainly dont mean to sound cold or cruel. I have seen numerous posts from the Daily Times both on Facebook and in the paper regarding the young man Ian Gray that passed away recently in an automobile accident. I have never seen so much coverage on any other youth that has died in an accident, especially that was listed as his fault.

I in no way want the death of anyone including Mr Gary. The publicity that has been listed for his death has all been so positive and how great he was. The more I read the more I fume. If you will check Maryland Case Search for him, you will find over a page of charges that he has received in the past few years. Unfortuantely this only shows the charges he has had since he became 18. If you could access the charges he had as a juvinile it would be overwhelming.

Thanks to his mother and a personal relationship that she has, or so reported, with a certain person in power most all charges have always been Nolle Pros. Even on 7/8 he was charged for driving a rental car against agreement. If the cops had charged him with not having a license and some other apparent issues maybe the man would still be alive. When the cops seem to overlook certain people no good ever comes of it and this to me is proof of that. And now to see post to accept collections for the family. First why would the mother continue to allow the man to drive her vehicles, rental or not, knowing he didnt have a license, especially to go to a bar in OC.

When things are posted in the positive light about someone that doesnt have such a glorious past and nothing or next to nothing about young people that are seriously trying to make a difference it saddens me. If you dont STAND OUT for bad or know someone at the paper you get no attention.

I wish I knew who the person who wrote this was. I am just curious to see what type of low life would write this. Absolutely disgusting. I don't knock Joe for posting this. I honestly think he does just to show the ignorance of some people in this area.

Anonymous said...

Yeah really. So he screwed up...alot.

And luckily he didn't kill anyone else on his way home that night or any other night.

But because he screwed up and had done alot of stupid stuff doesn't mean that there wasn't good in him too. He was good to people that he cared about. He will be very very missed in the community and by his family and friends.

Get a life and quit stirring stuff up about dead kids. Thanks

How about all the people this little criminal terrorized all these years? Do you think they will ever be able to rest in peace? What about the person he hit that caused his death, do you think he will ever be able to rest?

Oh yes the old "blame the cops" for the ACTIONS of OTHERS. Sad, not their fault.

Best advice for ya is get over it. Unless you were "victimized" by him. Why do you care? What's your problem? He's gone now so you won't have to worry your pretty little head about what "terrorizing" things he's done.
Dang!

I think what the writer is trying to point out to us is that if he had been punished for things that he had done wrongly in his past then he may have learned some lessons and that this accident may not have happened. He was not the only one that paid for his poor choices. The more things people get away with, the more wrongly they seem to do.

I think it's been the case for a long time now that when a young person dies due in whole or part to some bad or stupid behavior on his/her part, we miss the opportunity to educate the living because saying anything negative is construed as "blaming the victim." Unfortunately, sometimes the victim is the only one at fault. My mother told a story about a 6th- or 7th-grade classmate of hers who was killed while playing on railroad tracks. (This was back in the 1930's.) The principal held an assembly the following day, not to deliver a eulogy but to beat the kids over the head with what a senseless, stupid, ridiculous pastime playing on railroad tracks is. My mother lived to 79 and remembered it right to the end.

I applaud this letter writer for getting out in the open what people are saying in private. This needed to be said if Ian Gray is to leave any kind of legacy other than being known for his irresponsible actions. This was a very unfortunate tragic thing to happen to anyone and their family and there are lessons to be learned. If Ian can prevent other young people from driving irresponsible then he has left a powerful legacy behind.

How many deputies live in Nanticoke ? I guess Mike Lewis had to go down there and lock that turd up himself. Great work Sheriff Lewis. Gray is a vandal, thief, poacher, basically a thug. He and his little gang have caused more than just a little trouble in what was a quiet community.
Two new chargers down there maybe a little police work would be nice.

I'm happy to see that Gray got caught , Gray , West and Tindle are 3 of the vandals that have caused most of the problems.
Gray will get the crap beat out of him, plenty of people looking for the chance. The West boy is next in line for an a$$ kicking.

Ian Gray is as dumb as they come , his IQ is as close to zero as you can get. I blame his mother for his problems , she still thinks he's 5 years old. He belongs in jail and throw away the keys. Good thing Mr. Lewis didn't search the vehicle for dope , I'm sure he had some.

No Justice
Mr Albero,
Back this past summer or fall you were in attendance at the West Side FD during a community meeting where there was some discussion about a particular young man that had been involved in numerous theft, vehicle violations and an impersonating a police officer all this while chasing an Innocent citizen with flashing lights in his vehicle. Just thought you may want to check case search and see just how some people never get found guilty of just about anything. Look up Ian B Gray and see what you think. Makes you think why do the cops bother arresting anyone.
West Side Citizen.

Ian Gray has been a thorn in the side of all residents in this area.
He and his friends have caused this area a great deal of problems. His mother is and has been in denial , she does nothing but defend him. He doesn't work , just steals for a living. There is talk of the residents taking the law in their own hands. I can't really say I blame them.
9:15
Nothing will be done , he will get off as usual.

If he falls down the steps and breaks his neck, does it make a sound? Oh wait. I'm confused. Thats another saying...I think it goes "if he goes outside at night and gets shot in the head, does anyone give a damn?" dang. Thats not it either. okay...lets all just write the judge a letter thanking him for letting this perennial loser criminal prey on regular, hardworking, law-abiding, taxpaying citizens (whom he, the judge, supposedly SERVES). Maybe we'll get lucky and he'll come around MY house to steal something....

It is time for Gail to stop denying Ian is a menance and needs to be in jail where not only the citizens will be safe from his stealing, but he will be safe from the citizens wanting to take justice in thier own hands.
Gail and Adam wake up and show Ian that this is not the way to be a productive citizen.
PS. Horses will be safe as well so they won't be shot.

I find it very disturbing that people are so angry that people had nice things to say about a kid that was reckless and troubled and lost his life because of that, that they would resort to commenting anonymously on a blog.

Whether any of you like it or not Ian was well liked and loved by alot of people.

Unknown said...

It seems to me that some parents in our area should take the lives two boys who seem to be so popular on here the past few day as a lesson on parenting.

If you clean up your kids mess time after time, they will not learn to stop making them.

It is very heartbreaking that we loose kids everyday because of being young and dumb.

Unknown said...

I just want to add that I know that no parents help their troubled kids out with the intention of things getting worse.
They really are only trying to help them.
I want these parents to remember that you taught your kids the difference between right and wrong. Sometimes people just choose wrong and it's sad that the people who love them are the ones usually hurt the most by the wrong.

FINALLY! All of my censored posts said just this.

For all of those talking about how "he's dead, give him respect, etc"... He would still be alive if the LEO's down near bivalve showed ANY action. So save your moral bs. The truth is finally posted.

I've met Ian, and he was a nice guy, but he was also a vandal and could care less about others lives, whether human or animal.

9:36 "Oh yes the old "blame the cops" for the ACTIONS of OTHERS. Sad, not their fault."

It's the LACK OF ACTION that I blame the cops for, especially the Sheriffs dept, who have guys living down there, patting these drunk, drug fueled kids on the back. All because they once hung out with their father. SMFH

It's Bush's fault.

Anonymous said...

It is not the deputies fault that live down there. It's Ian's and Ian's alone.

I'm sure they are shaking their heads right along with you. They don't run the judicial system.

Hey Bozo! All tax paying citizens of Maryland were victimized by this criminal. It cost thousands of dollars to arrest him and send him to court. I don't know about you, but I pay a lot of taxes in this State.

To his parents I sympathize for you, but you FAILED him.

You obviously don't read do you. You are obviously a cop hater and it isn't the job of the cops to babysit little Ian. They did their job and he was arrested numerous times. The cops aren't to blame for this cancer on society.. Now he is in God's hands and that is who he will answer to.

Thank you Sheriff Lewis and the Deputies that live in the Bivalve area for doing your jobs.

Anonymous said...

All this as they are laying him to rest as we speak. Very polite and mannerly of you people.

Anonymous said...

1:42 Label much? I am the furthest thing imaginable from a "cop hater". They may have been forced to arrest him "on occasion", but he did far more than what those arrest reports make out. I will refrain from naming the deputy... but I was witness to a deputy trying to get one of these thugs off from assault on multiple officers, because the kid "lost his dad a few years ago, and needs a break" Tough sh!t. I bet I go to jail when I protect my house and livestock against one of these poor excuses for offspring. Anybody who lives down there will know this deputy. You're right, their hands are tied once it gets to court. Doesn't mean you let 4/5 things slide. These thugs were killing peoples animals, hurting other peoples children "just because we're high mannnnn" and getting off. Step off your pedestal, you'll see what really goes on around here.

This is so sad to hear people stoop down and deliberately hurt the people who loved this young man. God rest his soul.....if a child goes bad, there is usually a reason. May he rest in peace. His record died with him....

We shed no tears for liberals like you. It's people like you that allow criminals to get into trouble over and over again because you are a soft hearted liberal.

I have to admit I bristled when the news article referred to him as a "victim". The victim was the driver he hit. I was mildly amused when the article referred to him as "outdoorsy". Hiking and kayaking-that's outdoorsy. Vandalism, arson, robbery...not so much. Many people failed this child-his parents, the legal system, his friends, anyone who enabled him in his choices. He may have had supporters but it would be quite a stretch to say that his community loved him. I can speak for THIS community member:the neighborhood is a safer place today. This tragedy did not have to happen, and it is sad on so many levels. This "kid" was a habitual criminal and he should have been simply locked up a long time ago. He truly seemed beyond rehabilitation.

AMEN 4:15 PM.

Supporting this criminal like he is a martyr or saint proves this country is full of soft hearted liberals.

Even in his passing, people are covering up for him. Ask the FD why they cleaned up his glass bottle and aluminum "mess" before the PD arrived on scene.

;) Gotcha

Sheriff Lewis didn't go down to Bivalve to arrest Ian. Ian had the gonads to drive right past Sheriff Lewis while he was standing outside of the firehouse on Texas road, look right in the Sheriffs face and smile and wave at him. KNOWING he had just lost his license. Dumb kid rubbed it right in Lewis's face what was Lewis supposed to do? Let him go? The kid had problems. The kid is dead. Let it go.
