FINALLY, Tomato Samiches
To me, there's NOTHING better than fresh home grown tomatoes, lightly toasted bread and add mayo. I finally started pulling tomatoes off our plants and enjoyed what I've been waiting for since last summer. Yeah, you can buy tomatoes from the store but come on, you know they're a lot better when you can pull them off the vine or get them locally grown. With 12 plants producing like mad, it's going to be a great summer.

I have 6 plants going, none ripe for picking yet though.
well actually some do not know this but the tomatoes in the stores lack taste and are not good for a few reasons...
One is, they pull the tomato off the plant while it is still green or unripe... Then they blast it with nitrogen solution to make it have the appearance of being red or ripe... What this does for them is make the tomato last longer on the market... The tomato doesn't have time to ripen and let the sugars and things make the flavors we all were used to... hence that is why growing your own taste much better... not just a reward for the hard work and waiting game you have to do for the back yard growing...
I don't toast the bread. I like really fresh white bread the kind that sticks to the roof of your mouth for my tomato sandwiches. Mayo of course and something new I've tried this year, sprinkle of Old Bay on the mayo.
Try putting two slices of bread in one toaster hole. It toasts the outside and leaves the inside fresh...makes for an even nicer sandwich.
One thing missing... Bacon!
2:37-I have noticed store tomatoes when you wash them have like a sticky feel to them. I've noticed it with store cucumbers also. It's not the waxy stuff like they use on apples. Must be that solution.
love, love, love mater sandwiches; just like described. toasted, mayo (hellmans), juicy tomato slice and salt and pepper. yummmmmm.
If you can't grow your own, buy at the Farmer's Market downtown!
I'm 90% with you on this one, except I add bacon bits.
I am coming over tomorrow for a samich.
I can't think of anything more vile than mayo!
I agree add some bacon and lettuce in there!
Miracle whip with a ripe tomato and some bread. Yum. They have been wonderful this year.
I add Whatsthishere sauce. Makes a more meaty flavor!
The best bacon, lettuce and tomato sandwich is made with Duke's Mayo!!!

....and Kirby and Holloway bacon.
Ditto. Some brands of canned tomatoes and fire roasted canned tomatoes are really good in the winter when you can't get the real thing. They also make a great sandwich.
