‘Ping Pong Summer’ Filming Under Way; Local Girl Cast In Key Role

If Ocean City gets nothing else out of the filming of “Ping Pong Summer,” at least one local kid will have learned how to use a clutch on the movie’s dime.

“We’re teaching her how to drive a stick, but only for one scene. It’s perfectly safe, don’t get the wrong idea,” said the film’s director, Michael Tully, at a reception on Sunday. He was referring to local student Emily Shockley, who has garnered a key role in the upcoming independent film. Shockley is 15.

The same tack was taken by City Council in August, when it reluctantly approved a grant of $100,000 to help with the film’s funding, on the recommendation of the city’s Tourism Advisory Board.

So to OC Council, and Mayor Rick funded about 10% of a film?

Could that $100k have bought something else of greater importance?

Maybe boardwalk repairs (no that was free money from the state), how about lower bus fees (no that was stuck to the tourist),

maybe some check points for drunk drivers from 1 to 3am (no that money would hurt the councils bar friends), and

maybe even salary increases for the town employees (no they already have 1/3 making over $100k).

Way to go OC!
