Counties Decide To Push Back Against O’Malley Policies On Budget, Pensions, Land Use


County officials across Maryland are gearing up to push back against O’Malley administration policies that have cut state aid to the counties, piled on teacher pension costs with little say in how the pension system is run, and taken away local control over land use decisions.

Try living in town. The the feds cut funding to the states, they cut funding to the counties, then they cut it to the municipalities. Our county also refuses to either give a tax differential or provide services that equate to how much us city dwellers pay them. In essence people that live in town subsudize those that live in the county.

Joe, what is your position on the tax differential?

I was very careful when I moved out of MD to find a place that had the least number of municipalities to be funded by taxpayers. Generally, some may not mind if they get something out of the additional taxpayer funding but this has become a selective charity.
