How does this work? Are these the ones that serve one weekend out of the month? Sorry I not sure if these number are good or not.
not bad for 48 hours of duty...
I was an enlisted (non-commissioned officer) reservist for over 20 years, retired now. My duty station was in Philadelphia, then Ft. Dix, NJ. It took three and a half or four hours to drive each way. I would have already spent easily a dozen hours on the phone and computer, arranging training and watches, etc. before even setting out on the trip. Once there, the day was long, up at 5 and to sleep often after midnight. Those people who lived within 50 miles of the station weren't given lodging - they had to return home each night. The commanding officer actually flew in from Ohio on his own dime every month because it was the only billet (because of his specialty) available.
Active duty deployment to some hellhole in the world would come with 24 or 48 hours notice, leaving job, family, school and home responsibilities for an undetermined length of time, maybe to come back to no job, a distressed family, a wasted tuition and break in a study program and memories of the deployment that just don't go away. Maybe not to come back at all.
The pay may look like a lot to some, but the chart doesn't tell the whole story.
Looking at today's Congress, how many have actually served, active or reserve/guard? Very, very few. They just don't know the true picture from a personal perspective.
Weekend duty? Right.
24 days on weekend training and 14 or more on annual training deployment. Over a month away from home every year.
