Senate Gives First Approval To Income Tax Hike In Special Session

The Maryland Senate tonight gave preliminary approval to a nearly $250-million tax package that increases some income and tobacco taxes.

The vote came on the first day of a special session, and sets the proposal up for a final vote by the Senate Tuesday morning.

The House of Delegates is due to begin debate on the bill Tuesday afternoon, and take a final vote Wednesday ending the special session.

Senate President Mike Miller told colleagues that he "regrets" lawmakers having to return to Annapolis, but he notes that the legislature did not pass the tax bill by the time the regular session ended on April 9.

Sussex Co. Delaware, here we come. O'Malley, Cane, and Conway don't care if you leave. They are already locked up their retirement.

How about we give our final approval to get rid of these high-spenders in November!

They couldn't pass this bill in regular session because they spent so much time on gay marriage and other BS. Do you realize that this year's MD budget is nearlt 1 BILLION dollars MORE than last year's budget.....and they still say they cut the budget. What they cut was the automatic increases from last year. They have lost touch with reality.

I'm a registered republican but I generally don't like nor trust any politician and think for the most part they are one big sewing circle.
That being said I am pinning all my hopes on Del McDermott and I do trust that he has OUR best interests at heart. His outspokeness has endeared me to him-in other words he doesn't seem to give a rat's arse who he offends and tends to tell it like he sees it which is refreshing in a politician.
