Odessa, DE- The Delaware State Police Crash Reconstruction Unit is currently investigating a one vehicle personal injury accident involving a Delaware State Trooper that occurred this morning in Odessa.
The incident occurred at approximately 5:00 a.m. this morning (4/4) as a Delaware State Trooper was operating a 2006 Ford Crown Victoria and was traveling on southbound DE Rt. 1 north of Rt. 299 in Odessa. For an unknown reason the Trooper’s vehicle began to travel off of the east edge of the roadway while entering a curve in the road. The Trooper then overcorrected and then traveled off of the west edge of the roadway where his vehicle struck a ditch and several trees before coming to rest.
The Trooper was trapped inside of his vehicle for a period of time until he could be extricated by responding emergency workers. He was then removed from the scene and flown to the Christiana Hospital Trauma Unit where he is currently being treated for non-life threatening injuries.
Southbound DE Rt. 1 was closed for approximately 1.5 hours as the crash was investigated and cleared.
This crash remains under investigation by the Delaware State Police Crash Reconstruction Unit.

Yeah, this crap happens all the time...
I can tell you what happened... He was speeding, he fell asleep or dosed off and wham-o hes in a ditch with trees...
The recklessness of young troopers is ridiculous... I know of one state trooper whom was 23, and would take the trooper car home and to work and never drove his personal car... then he wrecked it going home from work and they gave him another police car and not even a month later wrecked that one on the way to work...
I mean how many times do the cops need to be speeding or wrecking due to their neglagence before we say, hey wait a min... you should be driving yuor personal car from home to work and back home... the police car should always be left at the station unless on duty...
they put wear and tear on the cars even on off duty... they waste gas riding their girlfriends and wife's around town... Hell I even see state troopers put state gas into their own personal cars...
And yet we don't have a problem...
Police drive 40 plus hours a week. Accidents will happen especially driving that much in the conditions they do. Get over it.
The one thing that caught my eye is the fact that this car is almost 7 years old and with what is required from a LEO vehicle the mileage must be way up there. I agree that Law Enforcement is a good calling but has never been known for great salaries and to think that a Trooper has to patrol in a car of the age makes no sense. Not saying that he was not at fault but just stating a fact.
Maybe the "distracted driving" campaign should start with some punishment right now. The TAXPAYERS are going to foot the bill and chances are, he's filing for disability (his back is hurt now) and will retire at full pay. Oh my bad --- the laws don't apply to the police. They (public MASTERS) are exempt from the laws we (the people) are put in jail for...speed as much as they wnat, wear the seat belt or not, drive aggressively, talk on cell phones while doing 70 in a 55, tailgate, change lanes repeatedly without a turn signal. Okay if you have a gun and a badge. CITIZENS pay thousands.....
