The Supreme Court on Monday ruled by a 5-to-4 vote that officials may strip-search people arrested for any offense, however minor, before admitting them to jails even if the officials have no reason to suspect the presence of contraband.
Justice Anthony M. Kennedy, joined by the court's conservative wing, wrote that courts are in no position to second-guess the judgments of correctional officials who must consider not only the possibility of smuggled weapons and drugs but also public health and information about gang affiliations.
About 13 million people are admitted each year to the nation's jails, Justice Kennedy wrote.
Under Monday's ruling, he wrote, "every detainee who will be admitted to the general population may be required to undergo a close visual inspection while undressed."

Let's all stop with the "Land of the free" crap. The conservatives on the court are determined to strip us of any rights and turn us into Russia.
I'll bet any amount of money you want that if the Supreme Court Justices underwent just ONE strip search they would think differently. But the elites (rulers) NEVER face such actions (and it AIN'T because they don't break the law). Further, I know every cop and jailer is SALIVATING at the new power, now codified by law, to strip search teenage girls and humiliate each and every person they arrest (you know, to "teach them who's boss" and of course, to keep "security" tight). The teenage girls will naturally be strip searched twice (or more). Security. Uh huh. Drunk drivers are ALWAYS sticking guns and drugs up their aces while being arrested. And those teenage girls? Who knows what they are hiding while protesting abortion and coincidently getting arrested. I'm POSITIVE arrests are going to skyrocket now. Just as a footnote, guess what's the FIRST thing totalitaian dictatorships do to the people that survive shooting and beating? Strip them and "search" them. NOT for "security", but for humiliation and control. Quit cheering now. Or finish polishing that swastika. Pick one.
