You are correct about the selectivity and favoritism shown by the “Your View” section of The Daily Times. The purported purpose for this component of the paper is to allow commentary from readers on issues of local interest. In reality it is an outlet only for those views supported by the paper. Susan Parker will not post any comment if it does not agree with the ideas of the paper no matter how well written or researched. If you write an opinion critical of a protected institution (like PRMC) your article will never see the light of day. You will be aware that the process is underway when they tell you that your article is “In editorial review”. Here is an excerpt from my response to Susan Parker in July 2011 after an article I wrote about problems at PRMC was censored:

Let me be more direct. I am sure the Peninsula Regional Medical Center is a big advertiser at The Daily Times and it will be very difficult to run articles that are critical to the institution. We are all aware of the saying “Don’t bite the hand that feeds you” and I can’t help but think that this may be the case here. . . But it makes critical discussion of these protected institutions all the more difficult in the mainstream media. A real and open dialog and communication of ideas is usually a good thing”

That is, unless “Your View” does not agree with “Their View”!
