Hold the darn phone — Walmart has been indicated in a bribery scandal in which the company's Mexican arm was bribing people to the tune of $24 million to obtain permits, and then attempted to cover up the whole scandal? We shan't believe it. Ha! Just kidding. That makes total sense.

Why does that shock anyone? I am so disgusted with the way Walmart does business (check your receipts against the prices on the shelves) that whenever they ring up something priced differently from what the shelf states, I go straight to customer service and return the item. Last time, it was 2 items. I e-mailed my complaint to Walmart and did not receive so much as an acknowledgement. I shop there only when I have to. They are not usually the cheapest around if you watch but most folks think they are!
This isn't news, it's standard busines proceedure for Mexico. I worked at a company that recieved a raw product from Mexico and there was an account set up to track the bribes. Without the bribes, truckloads and eventually trainloads wouldn't make it out of Mexico.
When in Rome , do as the romans do. Mexico is the crime capital of the world. So what?
EVERYTHING and ANYTHING can get done in Mexico with cash. legal or not, putting the dineros in the right hands gets the job done. On the other hand, if you don't grease the right hands, NOTHING gets done. In fact, without bribes, your project gets cancelled, permits are "lost", workers are harrassed, and entire warehouses of merchandise are stolen or burned in a mysterious fire. Or padlocked and guarded by POLICE until you pay up. But their President was allowed to stand in our Congress and LECTURE us about our laws.....
Why would that shock anyone. Wal Mart is more corrupt than any company I know. They'll pay anyone EXCEPT their employees or workman's comp. claims for their employees.
Folks, this is how business is done in Mexico, You no pay, you no get, Period. At least the Mexicans have a workable system!
