Worcester County Sheriff’s Office Press Release 2-2-12

The Worcester County Sheriff’s Office is reminding the community to be aware of telephone scams. Residents of Worcester County have received phone calls from persons identifying themselves as an attorney. That person tells their perspective victim that they have defaulted on a loan or owe a company money and are required to pay them. The suspects have the victim’s social security number and other personal information thus making the victim believe they are legitimate when in fact they are not. The suspects are identifying themselves as attorneys or working for attorneys.

The suspects often times have received the victim’s information from applications to companies such as Pay Day loans.

The suspects are relentless and call the victims multiple times demanding payment and further personal information.

The phone number that has been showing up on the victim’s caller ID from the suspects is 213-550-2032. When that number is called back you may receive a fast busy signal.

Please remember not to give out ANY personal information over the phone. If you have outstanding loans you should contact your lending company directly to determine the status of your loan. Be leery of anyone demanding money or information from you.

Remember you have the right to hang up the phone. Do not let these suspects pressure you into staying on the phone and giving out personal information.
