In some cases, it's not a bad idea. I'm the only child and the last of my father's line to carry the name, which means a lot to me that my children carry it as well. My husband was adopted and his last name didn't really mean as much to him.
On the eastern shore this isn't a a problem because most married couples already have the same last name.
