How Germany Builds Twice As Many Cars As The U.S. While Paying Its Workers Twice As Much

In 2010, Germany produced more than 5.5 million automobiles; the U.S produced 2.7 million. At the same time, the average auto worker in Germany made $67.14 per hour in salary in benefits; the average one in the U.S. made $33.77 per hour. Yet Germany’s big three car companies—BMW, Daimler(Mercedes-Benz), and Volkswagen—are very profitable.

The "statistics" of the US pay/benefits is skewed due to the lower cost production from non-union plants. Examine the cost per hour of union plants, and you'll easily see why they got into troubled waters. There is a huge difference in cost between a union and a non-union shop.

60k for German....35k for American and none of them are worth what we have to pay for them

Simply put German cars are way better engineered and better built. Thats why they sell so many of them
