NO! I dont see people standing in line to see a ball game. They sell alcohol. What makes the civic center believe they will have better attendance for an event just because they sell alcohol. DROP the subject already!

no. if the original agreement was no alcohol, it must be respected. no ifs, ands, or buts.
however, they need to rebuild in the old mall parking lot. THEN serve beer! america is filled with wonderful alcoholics. if you build it, they will drink!

This is a moot point. The land was donated with the restriction that no alcohol be sold. The County accepted the restriction the day the deed changed hands. So why is this even questioned?
It should be allowed to sell beer. A second parcel land swap should be done to accomplich this. If the beer deal could get passed, Salisbury is guarenteed a pro Hockey team.
No.If Native American DNA had not merged into the mainstream,liquor would not be a problem.At the risk of sounding racist,access to alcohol,especially hard liquor,needs to be restricted,reduced,or eliminated completely during high volume events.Those who have Native American blood know how alcohol affects them.However,when it's available they always partake.
No, absolutely not. For someone to DONATE the land is almost unheard of. That was the only restriction, to not sell alcohol. Respect the wishes! It's nice to go somewhere without alcohol all around you and your children!!

NO and what part of NO do you people not understand? Wicomico County accepted this property with the clear directive that NO alcohol ever be sold there. I would be in favor of allowing folks to bring their own if if does not violate the intent of the origin agreement.

I was wondering the same thing. It looks like that commenter has partaken of some liquor while at the keyboard.
The Civic Center has two plays coming up soon. Mamma Mia! and Cats.
I checked the price online for a ticket to see Mamma Mia!
The cheapest one, with all fees included was $111.00.
I have seen this play in Baltimore at the Hippodrome. I have seen other plays there and on and off Broadway in New York.
The price for Mamma Mia at the Civic Center is higher than I have paid at either Hippodrome or in New York.
How and why does whoever in charge at the Civic Center think they can charge so much at that sorry excuse for a theater?
Maybe that's why they want to serve alcohol there now, so people won't realize how bad they are being ripped off.
I like plays. I like seeing plays come to Salisbury. Lord knows this area needs some culture.
In this economy, in this area, they continually price events outside the reach of some people who might like to attend.
The same could be said for that fiasco at the Perdue stadium some time back.
If you want good attendance, keep the price of a ticket reasonable for this area.
The Civic Center is no way near the quality or either the Hippodrome or the theaters in New York.
I would rather drive the few hours to see the show in Baltimore or New York than be taken advantaged of by the Civic Center.
I don't know which cast is coming to Salisbury but the one I saw in Balt. was excellent. Even if people spring for the high price of a ticket I am sure they will enjoy the show and music of Abba.
Gary Mackes has been trying to push this alcohol thing for years. I suggest if he continues to disrespect the intentions of the family that donated the property with this restriction, their is a solution. Give the property back to the family and have a private entity open a facility that accomodates inclusion of alcohol. This restriction on this property should NEVER be changed.
Absolutely NOT!!!! The county accepted the gift of the property with the condition on NO Alcohol.. ever. Now stick to it. Better yet, if they decide to sell alcohol, then give the property back to the heirs, in exactly the same condition as it was given, & find land to build over. People, do the right thing. NO ALCOHOL.

I have to post a correction/retraction.
While it is true I found tickets online for the amount I stated, I have since gone to the Civic Center's web site and discovered they are selling tickets for much lower than I found.
Tickets can be had at the Center for as low as $57.35.
I apologize for any inconvenience.
NO! It's not needed and I don't believe for a second it would help to generate more revenues.
You might get a few more people going there because they can buy alcohol, but I'd bet you'd lose just as many if not more because of the people drinking!
Yes. We would get many more GOOD concerts if they did. And like others have said, at least beer. If The House hadn't had the tour bus robbery there would still be good concerts held locally.
It's not like the civic center hosts many concerts. It's a horrible venue. BUT, if they rebuild it or have a major renovation, then you've gotta have alcohol.
807-I go to concerts atleast 1-2 a month in the DC/Baltimore area. Every venue sells alcohol. Take for example Pier 6 in Baltimore's inner harbor. They have their own microbrew beer, sells like hot cakes. 3-4 lines of 25+ each throughout the entire show. Get an agreement with Evo, take a little off the top and everyone's happy. To say that serving alcohol turns people away, you've obviously not attended many shows.
