MD PUBLIC'S HELP SOUGHT IN SEARCH FOR VA BANK ROBBERY SUSPECT

(PIKESVILLE, MD) -- Maryland State Police are asking for the public’s help in the ongoing search for a suspect who shot at police officers during a robbery at a Virginia bank Friday and is known to frequent Baltimore and Harford counties.  

Maryland state troopers have joined the FBI and Virginia law enforcement authorities in the search for James Whittlesey, 52, who may frequent or even live periodically in Harford and Baltimore counties.  He is described as a white male, 5’ll”, 235 pounds, with black/grey hair and brown eyes.  He may have a moustache and possibly a trimmed beard.  He also has a tattoo on his right forearm.  

Officers from the Winchester Police Department have obtained an arrest warrant for Whittlesey, charging him with the attempted capital murder of a law enforcement officer, robbery, and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.  The charges stem from the robbery of a bank in Winchester, Virginia, on the afternoon of October 14, 2011.
