TRAINING FOR WHAT?

Nighttime choppers in Pennridge area training for battlefield

Helicopters seen — and heard — at night in the area around Ridge Road are in military training.

“Those are state department pilots and they are doing night vision training,” East Rockhil Supervisor Jim Nietupski said at the board’s recent work session.

“Once they get enough pilots trained with night vision goggles, that training will stop,” Nietupski said.
Colder weather will also bring an end to the flights, he said.

Nietupski said he checked into the helicopter flights in response to resident questions.

“Some neighbors have complained about the noise,” Nietupski said.

Board Chairman John Cressman said he understands the concerns raised.

“These are big helicopters,” Cressman said.
