BALTIMORE (WJZ) – This energy saver focuses on making the switch to CFLs.
Mary Bubala reports a compact fluorescent light bulb or CFL uses 75 percent less energy.
They last about 10 times longer than an incandescent bulb.
The energy-saving light bulbs will pay for themselves in about six months.

There's no way these things save money and "pay for themselves."
They say they last longer, but I've had to replace them as often as incandescent bulbs, and the darn things cost 3 or 4 times regular bulbs. How is that saving me money?
And where are these great energy saving bulbs made. My bet is China.
AND, they're filled with mercury!
And they afford 99% LESS light! If these can be marketed, why can't we have mercury thermometers?
Then why has my electric bill gone up and not down. The only savings are being realized by the electric companies and the companies that produce the bulbs.
They also suck!
I have 384 of these bulbs plus 960 cold-cathode dimmable fluorescent bulbs in my poultry houses. I can tell you they do not last longer than regular bulbs. Yes, they do use less electricity but the jury is still out on whether the total cost over time is more or less.
Just don't turn them on and off too often and they may just last longer.
I've had some that have to be replaced after a few months, but for every one of those I have ten that have lasted three years or more. How do I know? I converted my house to mostly CFLs just over three years ago.
If one of those bulbs break you need to call hazmat to come do a clean-up.
Please everyone do not fall for this nonsense.
if you want to have some fun....go into a store and break a few of these at their "recycle" CFL station. if they don't do a proper cleanup, call 911 for hazmat emergency. If this happens enough throughout the country, they will get pulled from the shelves.
