Rehoboth Beach-The Delaware State Police Friday September 30, 2011 will host a golf tournament which benefits the Camp Barnes Organization.  The event kicks off at 12:15 p.m. (registration at 10:00 a.m.) at the Kings Creek Country Club located in Rehoboth Delaware.
The money raised from the golf tournament goes toward the continued efforts at giving kids the opportunity to enjoy all of what Camp Barnes has to offer.  Camp Barnes, located on Millers Creek, in Frankford, DE, has served the needs of thousands of children from throughout Delaware since 1947. Camp Barnes was originally designed to provide the children who were unable to attend the opportunity to experience life at a summer youth camp. It has remained basically unchanged, providing Delaware children with these outdoor experiences for over 50 years.
The summer camp is an overnight residential camp run by the Delaware State Police and is open to children between the ages of 10 and 13 at no cost to the camper or family.  Camp Barnes accommodates 60 campers per week for 6 weeks. The camp is in session from early July through August.
One of the many positive aspects of Camp Barnes summer camp is the innovative use of adventure based outdoor learning experiences. Camp Barnes has on its grounds an extensive outdoor initiative course with 17 different individual and team building elements.
Some of the many activities campers participate in throughout the week include:
  • Swimming in an Olympic size pool.
  • Kayaking in Millers Creek
  • Arts and Crafts
  • Nature Walk
  • Talent Show
Campers also enjoy their own version of the Olympics, and demonstrations by the State Police K-9, Scuba, and Aviation Units.
With so much to see and do at Camp Barnes, it is easy to see why so many children enjoy their experience. With your help and assistance many other children like them could get their chance.
