Yes.
Yes, it would eliminate parents having to buy expensive clothes for style and peer pressure. It would also eliminate, some "suggestive" outfits worn, by some young ladies, gang colors, etc..

NO if i wanted my child to wear a uniform i would put them in private school!!!! Uniforms are as expensive if not more expensive than clothes if you know how to shop the sales! my friend pays $26 per shirt for private school. plus $40 for gym uniform and then the pants.

Yes my child attends DMSH we love it and it saves us so much money. Also the kids all look the same so no one is left out or made fun of for their clothes.

To Anon 11:18 - At least you and your child wouldn't have to "compete" to have the best clothes! You wouldn't have to worry about your child being beaten up for an article of their clothing or just because someone didn't like what your child was wearing.
I wish they had done uniform policies way before now!
As a recent graduate of the local public education system, now is a better time then ever to create auniform policy. With more violence and attacks on kids in school there is almost no reason why there should not be. At most you would need 3 uniforms which is a lot less expensive then buying a new closet full of clothes each school year. This eliminates the ties of poverty as well, when you all look the same how can someone be made fun of for what they are wearing? Uniforms are certainly a great idea.
11:18 - that's a total crock. If your 'friend' spends that much money on private school clothes it's by CHOICE. My child has had uniforms since the age of 2 and I've NEVER paid that much money for one article of clothing. I've NEVER encountered peer issues either - except over a pair of UGGs that I refused to pay $100+ on. Her school requires clothing with NO outward showing brand - period - so all the kids look the same regardless of whether they shop at Land's End or Kmart.
Uniforms are the way to go - not only to eliminate peer pressure but to ease the laundry loads!
11:33 i dont allow my child to dress wildly or crazy. so they wont havent been beaten up for wearing certain clothes and by no means is walmart target or the goodwill the BEST clothes! so dont judge me till you meet me or my family. And the only thing we compete in is sports. But thanks for caring.

no then it wouldn't be public schools then would it... and wearing a uniform doesn't make the kid learn more or less... it won't keep them out of trouble either... it is just another way to control you...
And for those people who said yes, you should really think about it... you would have to buy the clothes for them to wear because the schools won't provide it...
Also you should think about this: if you bought a car, you are already told how to pay for it and how much to pay, your already told what gas and oil to out in it... Would you want the car dealer to tell you when and where and how to drive it as well?
If you go to a restaurant, do you want the owner to tell you what your going to eat instead of you choosing?
would you want someone to tell you that you have no choice but to cash that paycheck at that certain bank which that bank has a deposit fee for all accounts of 50 dollars... and the only way to cash the check is to pay the fee or not have money...
This is why the country is F'ed up, you have other people speaking for others when they shouldn't or don't know anything about others situations... Why don;t you just STFU and let the people whom it affects speak...
If you have no kids, nor have any in public schools, you should STFU and not speak for me or anyone else PERIOD...
Same goes for fees and taxes and tolls hikes... unless you will give out your so called hard earned money don't speak...
Yes, uniforms may cost initially but the savings is long term. Usually the school will have a trade in to swap pieces of clothing. Studies have shown the students have a better attitude and actually retain more. Students should dress appropriately, not with nasty/suggestive phrasing, pants dragging the ground, and such.

Your entire post makes absolutely no sense at all. Must be that punlic education you got without any uniform policy in place. But seriously, if they can control what you take into your body(food, drinks)and how much you exercise(gym class) why should it matter that much for them to tell you what to wear FOR YOUR CHILDS SAFETY.

I was in numerous fights in public schools just for being friends with specific individuals, therefore I know kids still fight for wearing a certain color or brand. Kids are made fun of on a consistant basis because of the brand on their clothes or shoes, all of that goes away with a uniform policy. Then all the teachers have to focus on is teching your kids instead of becoming professional baby sitters like most are now. TIMES ARE NOT THE SAME AS THEY USED TO BE WE MUST CONFORM TO KEEP UP. If it was such a thing that the school just wanted control over wardrobe that would be one thing....

Growing up in USSR/ Russia, I appreciated uniforms because my friends or I would not be singled out simply because parents could not afford jeans or sneakers. They did away with uniforms there soon and a lot of kids would simply refuse to school because they had nothing to wear. They ended up wearing their old uniforms while other kids wore fancy clothes.
When I moved here I wore second hand clothing to school. I again wished for uniforms...
Uniforms would help but there are plenty of other bullying methods used that it wouldn't make as much of a difference. Every school is different and maybe each should go through a uniform trial period to see if it addresses the issues for that school. I'm on the fence as a partly feel like uniforms are one step towards turning kids into mindless drones who lack creativity (heard that attribute is failing in this country for other reasons) but as stated it would improve attention spans as less is focused on your clothing. For those making it seem like it will cure dysfunctional kids shouldn't be so naive.
Yes, and so should the teachers and staff both at the school and the BOE. That way there is never any doubt about who belongs in a school or facility.
The survey question asks if ALL public school students should be required to wear uniforms. The operative word is "all." I do like the concept of uniforms, but that judgment should be left up to individual jurisdictions' Boards of Education.
12:11 and others who think that uniforms do not make a child learn more or less, actually the reseasrch has shown that uniforms may very well help some students learn more. Instead of focusing on clothes, their attention might be directed more toward learning.
My child is in private school where uniforms have been required, but the policy is very liberal...shorts, capris, variety of color choices, etc. Exchange or trade with other parents, sales from the distributor keep costs down. My child is in high school and hasn't needed any new shirts for 3 years because his size hasn't changed that much. All I have to do is buy some new shorts and a couple of pair of pants. They can wear any type of shoes from flip flops to Uggs. Lots of choices and minimal costs. Love it!
Might be a good idea. Remember back when kids dressed in bell bottoms,tie dye,head bands,John Lennon glasses and rarely bathed?

Uniforms are cheaper and make everyone focus on school instead of fashion.
I also think teachers should be required to wear uniforms - I've seen WAY TOO MANY younger teachers who show too much cleavage or show their tramp stamp when they bend over. What an example for our kids.
Yes, and each school should have different colors so when they commit a crime the police know which school to start looking for them.
I don't think you will hear of kids being robbed for their school uniform either.
