Category 1 storm extremely dangerous, forecasters say; 2.3 million ordered out across East Coast
Hurricane Irene howled ashore in North Carolina with heavy winds, rain and surf on Saturday on a path threatening the densely populated U.S. East Coast with flooding and power outages. The eye of the storm crossed the North Carolina coast near Cape Lookout around 7:30 a.m. ET, forecasters at the U.S. National Hurricane Center said.
Irene was moving north-northeast along the coast and was expected to remain a hurricane as it hit the mid-Atlantic states on Saturday night and New England on Sunday.

What a complete joke. What will happen if ever there is a real emergency.
9:02, another eastern shore clown. Hurrican Floyd hit with only a little more force back in 1999 and caused 5.3 billion in damage along with taking 57 lives. THe storm progressed on a similar track as Irene and like Irene, took place after a significant period of rain. DO us all a favor and STFU. If you think it's a joke, then go back to OC and hang out on the beach all you want.
