City Of Salisbury Hurricane Update Sunday

The City of Salisbury has reduced the level of operation of its Emergency Operations Center from a Level 4 - Full Scale Activation to a Level 2 - Watch - event/disaster may occur - notification is made to agencies and support staff who would need to take action as part of their responsibilities.

*       Financial estimates for the cost of the storm have begun.

*       Traffic control lights are operational - 99%

*       Fire and Police departments are still functioning at full staffing

*       Ambulance Humvees  - 2 during high-tide (approx. 3:30 pm)

*       1 MP Humvee requested for highwater areas - to assist police

*       Tree down on Truitt St. SPW has been dispatched to clear the road.

*       At Approximately 2:00 AM Sunday morning, due to extreme high tide, 750,000 gallons of 100% treated effluent overflowed into a retaining ditch at the Salisbury Wastewater Treatment Plant.  Ultimately that treated effluent made its way into the Wicomico River.  The extreme high tide kept the effluent from discharging from the normal WWTP outfall pipe.  Again the overflow was already 100% treated effluent from the plant that was, ultimately headed for the Wicomico River.  MDE has been alerted to the event.

*       Next Salisbury City Operations meeting at Station 16 from 5-6 PM today August 28, 2011 for damage assessment follow up and future plans.

The Salisbury Government Office Building will be open tomorrow morning, Monday August 29, 2011.

Anyone else notice the self-important tone of these updates? Salisbury trying to play big league. Who writes this pompous stuff?

How about, "We're lucky Irene wasn't worse. There was some damage done, but nothing yet reported of a serious or life-threatening nature. The public should exercise common sense caution when approaching any water-covered roadways and report fallen trees to ____."

Etc. In other words, tell me something useful and say it in plain English.

With all the preparation mr mayortard, and mr execudick, why wasn't the wastewater treatment taken care of? Not like the first time it has discharged into the river. why don't you think about this instead of curfews next time? You know, something important!

Of course all you hear is silence from our local MDDEMS , those corporation bashing friends of the environment, and you know who you are, lets see, every schill at NWA CBF and CW, SU and then the women in OC who sneaks onto farmers property to test the ditch water, and on and on and on!

You highly educated ffffffffffolks ALWAYS keep your latte sipping yaps SHUT though when it's one of your lefty commie pals in office don't you?

You people wouldn't know an unbiased thought if it floated up your nose like Naegleria fowleri.

Treated effluent my tailpipe, will the DT report on this? Nope.

I wonder if certain "non profits" will hold a fact finding hearing and kill a few more trees generating press releases? NOPE

You people are a joke and the MAJORITY in this town all snicker at you behind your backs when you walk by.

I am going fishing there first thing in the morning after I pick up my Food Stamps, Welfare Check and Unemployement check.

2:07, maybe the Public Information Officer wrote that; with what he's paid, it's supposed to sound pompous.

4:27, do you feel better now? I'm glad you got all that out of your system! And I have no idea what "Naegleria fowleri" is! I like the sentence, though; it shows a little imagination. Thanks for the entertainment.
