Shanie Shields – I Want Somebody With A Gun

Even with a long and boring Salisbury City Council work session, there’s always the possibility that councilwoman Shanie Shields will deliver some outrageous comment. Last night’s work session proved to be one of those days.

Near the end of the work session, discussing the council’s rules of order, councilwoman Debbie Campbell brought up the question of whether having a Salisbury police officer present (much less a detective, as required under the current rules) was a good use limited police resources.

Shields wasn’t going to have any of that, “I want somebody with a gun!”.

It’s amazing. I’ve attended council / board of county commissioners / board of supervisors / levy court meetings in three states. You may occasionally see an officer at these meetings.

Wicomico County Council President Gail Bartkovich has a common sense policy. If an agenda is particularly controversial or if a particularly large or heated crowd shows up Bartkovich takes out her cell phone and asks the Sheriff’s office to send a deputy or two over. I think she’s done that one time.

Perhaps Shields should ask that Bartkovich come to visit the city council meetings. She doesn’t have ANY problem maintaining order while being fair to the public. Unlike someone like Louise Smith or Mike Dunn, when Bartkovich tells you to stop, you take her seriously.

I may agree with her on this one Joe. I'll bet the Bay District School Board in Panama City, Florida had wished there was a law enforcement office present when a a gunman, whose wife had just lost her job with the school board, open fired during their meeting.

She wants somebody with a gun. Everyone in her district carries a gun. How do you think they make a living , can't make it on welfare anymore.

Surely our black community can provide a better representative then this ignorant woman.

Have a realistic concealed carry law in this state, instead of the current one none can afford or meet the ridiculous requirements for. Problem solved, no cost to the taxpayer.

So is this the only info to come out of the work session?

Why should Bartkovich be asked to attend when you are already there to tell them the correct way to handle things. Perhaps if you had set Dunn and Smith on the right path long ago, the meetings would not be so out of hand presently.

Actually IMO it is unimportant what is done at meetings in council, board of county commissioners, board of supervisors, levy courts in three states, because judging from this "news worthy" account you go to the meetings to look for reasons to tee-hee.

Big Breaking News: SHANIE IS SHAMED AGAIN, in a posting to enable a reason to bring up Smith and Dunn as past problem kids, AGAIN.

Shanie is entitled to say what she thinks, just as you are.

This is total nonsense, how trivial to be even be discussed at a work session.

Anon 0945 -

Would you prefer a long, boring account of every ridiculous change to the rules of order? I didn't think so.

I was at another event until seven (post at noon). When I got there the towing ordinance had already been tanked. Laura Mitchell had already reneged on her commitment to support the budget RE: PAC-14. CDBG was pretty cut and dried. So ...

It's not about "reasons to tee-hee". It's about the foolishness of some of our elected officials. Or would you prefer that they just get a free pass?

I can't remember which board or council it was, but there was a cop there and guess who was shot first. Why does the Salisbury council need "police protection" and the county council (or any other body nearby) doesn't?

That is the most unflattering picture ever. I don't know her, but this picture of her always makes me giggle.

Yea, more expensive nonsense from these people. I'm starting to suspect they can do NO good work.

This is pretty funny coming from the woman who sicced (sp?) "her people" on three of her council colleagues! Thanks to her, they probably do need protection now!!!!! Or am I racist for saying that?
