FDA Approves More Drugs

The FDA has picked up the pace on drug approvals. The agency has already approved twenty new drugs this year. It approved twenty one in all of last year. The Wall Street Journal reports it is on pace to approve more new drugs than in recent years. Yet the agency is under fire from the pharmaceutical industry for an overly-strict approval process. The FDA says drug companies face high failure rates during the trial phase rather than in the approval process.

Under fire from the pharmacuetical companies because they (the FDA) aren't putting new drugs on the market fast enough for them (the pharma companies)??? And the FDA is feeling the heat?? Used to be that the FDA wouldn't put a drug on the market that lsited as "side effects" things like heart attack, liver failure, depression and suicide risk, skin blisters, stomach and intestinal bleeding, cancer, and yes, even DEATH. Thats right, the FDA has approved new drugs that "occasionally" (but rarely, if THATS any consolation) result in FATAL side effects. Now, you see those kinds of drugs advertised a hundred times a day. The drug companies couldn't care less if their drugs kill you, its the PROFITS they salivate at and even though most drug research is subsidized by taxpayers, once the bribes are in, they (the drug companies) want some action. Some results. Some "fast-track' approvals. And if you don't think bribes are in the mix, why would the FDA feel ANY "heat"?? The approval process is what it is and it takes as long as it takes....unless, of course, theres been an "expectation" of results...
