Police Search For Armed Man Near Parkway In Maryland

DEVELOPING: Maryland State Police and Anne Arundel County police are searching for an armed man along the Baltimore-Washington Parkway, but say no one has been injured.

Police received calls late Wednesday morning reporting a man with a shotgun or rifle along the highway near Interstate 195 in Linthicum, about two miles from the Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport.

Police spokesman Greg Shipley says initially police received reports of shots fired, but they have not been able to confirm that. He says the man may have used a hammer to break out windows of a vehicle parked nearby.

State Highway spokesman Charlie Gischlar says the highway remains closed in both directions while the incident is being investigated.

Gov. Martin O'Malley was briefed on the situation after a Board of Public Works meeting.
