Giant Food Delivers?

Not exactly!

Last week we noticed one of the Giant Employees standing in front of our Office with a shopping cart full of food. The employee asked us if we could keep an eye on the cart until another employee showed up to take it away.

The next thing we knew there were two Salisbury Police Officers at our door inspecting the items in the cart and taking pictures of it.

It turns out, someone was in Giant shopping, went through the self check out and didn't pay the bill. He walked right out with the cart while the staff called the Police.

Believe it or not, he got as far as 300 W. Main Street before he ditched the cart and took off running. He was finally caught at Brew River.

Unfortunately, ALL of the meat products had to be thrown in the trash, its their policy. Even though some of it was lunch meats sealed up, it had to be thrown away.

Give the meats to a homeless shelter.

Homeless shelters dont want meat that has been out in the sun for hours EITHER. Just feed it to an animal.

The staff at Giant is outstanding. I have seen them chase off people begging in their parking lot. And they will do just about anything for good customer service.

Oh, so it's ok to feed bad meat to an animal??? Cruel.

They CANNOT sell meat once they have lost custody of it. What if the guy injected the meat with some kind of poison?
Can you be sure the meat is safe?

If they have to throw away the meat because someone might have put poison in it, why wouldn't they have to throw away all the non-canned good food away as well?

As to feeding the potentially spoiled meat food stuffs to a homeless shelter... We (HALO)do feed the homeless..right behind The Giant Shopping Center next to Harvest Baptist Church..Mornings and dinner 7 days a week...365 days a year.. provided for and manned totally by donations and volunteers. For certain all the food is well cared for from receipt to its being served. We would not accept any items that could pose a risk.

Salisbury, we should all be thankful for the volunteers, and numerous small businesses that see a need and take action and take nothing from government.
Thank you HALO!
