Feds Pay for Study of Gay Men’s Penis Sizes

NOTE:  Some readers may find this article too graphic

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) subsidized a study attempting to find out if a gay man’s penis size has any correlation with his sexual health.

The research, titled “The Association between Penis Size and Sexual Health among Men Who Have Sex with Men,” began in 2006 and surveyed 1,065 gay men. Among its key findings: Those gay men who felt they had small or inadequate penis sizes were more likely to become “bottoms,” or anal receptive, while gay men with larger penises were more likely to identify themselves as “tops,” or anal insertive.

Another discovery from the research: men with smaller penises were more likely to be psychologically troubled than those with larger genitalia. The goal of the study was to understand the “real individual-level consequences of living in a penis-centered society.”

Okay, okay, so when we TEA Party members rail on the government to stop spending, the politicians all chant together, "In order to do that we'll have to cut Granny's Social Security and medical care". Meanwhile, our tax/ healthcare money is spent on crap like this. Wake up, America!

Sounds like the research from the penis study may be useful, although I question the amount of the grant. Can't imagine a survey and analysis would cost that much, but maybe it does.

Not impressed with the video game idea at all.

Studies like these wouldn't be issues if our government could stop borrowing money to fund two (or is it three now) wars.

Spending money on a study like this is pathetic. Who cares?

8:47, thats because entitlements soak up WAAAYYYY more money than all these studies (good and bad) combined. Not to mention, when conservatives rail about the US healthcare system being #1, it's largely because of much of the NIH/NSF funded research.

This study sounds like crap. But the vast majority of NSF/NIH funding lays the scientific groundwork that then allows private companies to develop new therapies/technology. Although more scrutiny is needed (as proven by this post), you have people that want to demonize legitimate work for political gain.

A prime example: the "shrimp treadmill" study. You're talking about a study looking at a legitimate issue (impact of disease on shrimp growth/survival) that can affect an entire industry that people in the gulf and other coastal populations rely upon for commerce. Yet they make it sound like a bunch of dork scientist wanted to take shrimp to the gym.

We all just need to be more congnizant of the animal dung dropped by the elephants and the donkeys on a daily basis

Who brought this to the table, Barney Frank?

While I do appreciate you keeping us posted on how the government is wasting our tax money, you could have spared us the sordid details about the results of this frivalous "study". The pictures it conjured up in my mind almost made me puke.

Sounds like an entitlement waiting to happen. Next we will be subsidizing penis enlargements for the poor oppressed gay men.

This is so crazy it's sickening. The country is now on the verge of default & our tax money is measuring mens peckers and who's on top. Only in the USA. Whoever voted for the expenditure should be forced to resign immediately.
