Letter to the Editor – More Complaints About the Wicomico Humane Society

I'm writing again concerning the Wicomico County Humane Society. It has been brought to my attention that this past week while still under scrutiny from the public that they still refuse to do their jobs or have any compassion for the animals in the county.

It seems they got a call about a dog in bad shape from the Sheriff’s Department. They said they would take care of it. Funny thing is the Sheriff’s Department, thinking this was done got another call that they went on. The dog had died in the yard. From info I have received no one had gone out to this animal’s aid.

Another incident happened in the Town of Delmar last week. The town has a very part-time dog control officer. He was not on duty. The Delmar Police Department came upon an animal cruelty case and called the Humane Society to come take this puppy to a vet and hold as evidence for prosecution of the guilty party. The police were told they would not come. Since when is Delmar not part of the county?

It seems to me that this is not just not doing their jobs but a blatant uncaring attitude about animals in danger. I hope the people of Wicomico County do not find this acceptable behavior. Seems like the humane society people in charge pick and choose what they will do and what animals will be rescued.

Yet they have time to act in childish retaliation against me for posting out to other rescues a dog that needed help. Last week my landlord received many anonymous calls trying to have me evicted from my home. I can't prove but assume where these calls were generated from. I am at this time in talks with an attorney about filing a harassment suit against the Humane Society and the board of directors for my continued harassment by Sandy Hudson the shelter manager which has gone on for the last year and a half.

Sherry Dillon.

What do you really expect with the freaks that are running HS... Seriously, better luck complaining to Opera.

It's time to call "The Big Brothers In" If things aren't being run in a "fit" manner----If the Executative isn't making a change out there & if there's proof---get manned with those tape recorders people----then if things don't get better with all these complaints---- go the next step over Mr Pollitt!! Someone hired the person in charge out there --- so looks like that person can fire also.

Close it down for a week----Start all over again---someone has that power---demand to know----it's every citizens right to know!!1=

Everyone of you should have to work at the Humane Society for just 8 hrs. I can promise you that you would not be quick to judge anyone except the stupid people you have to deal with day in and day out. I have been involved with dogs most of my life and have seen first hand our Humane Society and know how it works as well. It is not easy working with the county and city and having a budget that involves working with them along with the Humane Society which has to make up the 1/3rd part of the budget. Always remember, there are 3 sides to every story. Yours, theirs and somewhere in the middle you might find the truth!!!

I agree with 9:18; this is a travesty!

huh?

If idiots wouldn't get cats, dogs, and whatever else, and the county would fund it properly, you would be amazed at what the HS could get done. Just like any other hen house, all the biddies are promoting their own agenda, with little regard for the common good.

Usilton had some issues too. There was a great dane in my neighborhood that was biting children (this happened more than once)and nothing was done. It was said that he was friends with the owner.

"Everyone should have to work at the Humane Society for just..." Blah blah blah.

Heard it all before. Look, I went to college for the degree I earned. I do my job. I do it correctly and efficiently. It's the job I CHOSE. I didn't choose to work at the Humane Society.

With that being said, every single one of us is held to expectations. If we fall short of those expectations what is to happen? We will be fired. Do you see where I'm going with this?

The incompetent workers of the Humane Society need to be let go. It's long past its time. You can only conduct business this way for so long before it catches up with you. Looks like it's starting to catch up with you, Linda.

Again == How many complaints need to be filed before the higher-ups in this situation need to take this seriously? This unrest has been going on for YEARS. Get it together.

send all the pets to ECI and let the prisoners take care of them.
Save a lot of bucks.

8:15, there is a reason the Humane Society chooses to go to the Daily Times to air their side of the story.

The Daily Times fumbled a story a few years back. They refuse to write anything bad about the Humane Society - too many friends involved.

The Daily Times censors their articles so the Humane Society comes out smelling like roses. Been there. Done that. I witnessed it first hand. The Daily Times refused to publish any of the actual evidence I had in my case. Instead they took some BS statement from Lindo Lugo. Why waste my time reading lies?

You're in denial. Then again, you probably work at the Wicomico Humane Society. And just for the record, as a family we volunteer and donate to animals on a regular basis - just not for the Wicomico Humane Society. We will NEVER step foot in there again. Our energy and money will be spent elsewhere. Where it's appreciated and needed.

Has anyone contacted some of the animals rights groups? This needs more attention from groups who arent' afraid to raise the roof and put pressure where pressure is needed.

You must be one of the arrogant folks that put in time there! We all have stressful jobs and deal with the public. If you can't take the pressure do something different. No matter how you feel they still work for the public and should act like a public servant. Their attitudes are going to put their funding in jeopardy. I will not continue to support those who think they are untouchable and don't have to answer to anyone!

So all of you send your money to HSUS and guess what, it won't be long before you will lose your right to even own certain types of dogs like Dobes, Shepherds and other breeds. I guess most of you think every dog in the world can be saved. What about those poor starving people in Ethiopia they have been showing on TV all week? We can't save all of them either. Investigations have found to be true about the HSUS. Most of their money goes for salaries! Yes, our Humane Society, if we live in the county it is indeed ours. I consider Salisbury "mine" too, but that is because I live here. I have nothing to do with "our" humane society at all. Sorry!!! Maybe I should get involved, but at least I am not complaining and doing nothing. I just think we are quick to judge, but have no real solution except FIRE EVERYONE or sue someone!! That is not always the answer. Sad!!!

Great letter!
Problem is I believe we are being called "stupid" by the unprofessional HS worker who posted a comment above.

you would not be quick to judge anyone except the stupid people you have to deal with day in and day out.

Yes, they called us stupid. What a great organization working towards the better of the community/NO, the people/NO, the animals/NO, oh, I know, for the better of their paychecks. I got it!

Pardon me, but I'm "stupid".

Anonymous said...

That letter was not posted by any HS employee, sorry to disappoint you. and yes, maybe "stupid" is not the right word... ignorant might fit more appropriately here! People don't even think about responsibility of having children and what they require, OMG how could I ever expect anyone to think about their poor animals who also totally depend on them for food and shelter. Like everything else, we are a throw away society. The Humane Society provides lots of good services like vaccination clinics and Spay/Neuter clinics for the public. Don't forget that. .. IF people took advantage of spay clinics, maybe we wouldn't have so many stray pets..... AND on another subject... at the present time there are local RESCUE GROUPS that are bringing dogs and cats into our county from other parts of the country into our area. If not placed properly, these animals will be given up for adoption again andguess who will be called to take them in> you got it..Wicomico County Humane Society at expense to our county. Most, maybe all of these are not neutered when brought into our county as some are young puppies. Maybe you should be focusing on that as well.

Let's get a true law enforcement officer to run this HS like it should be run, ethically, morally and professionally in the best interests of all the people.

Fire all of them- Hudson, Lugo and all. They had their chance to work for the good of animals and protect the people as well. Only a law enforcement officer would carry this out properly and is the only person we can now trust.

Let's see change!

So who says this "story" is the gospel? It is but ONE side of which there are TWO (always are).

As a member of one of those "rescue" groups, no we do not dump our discarded and unwanted pets to the WicHS. We take our unwanted and discarded pets back into our own foster system of private homes. If you can not keep one of our pets that you adopted we will take it back, no questions asked, no time limits, no restrictions. We infact rescue pets that are marked to be killed, OUT OF humane society's.
Looks like you are the stupid one now. Shame on you for making crap up to suit your ignorant point. We have nothing to do with the WicoHS for a reason.
