Republican legislators are not happy with a decision by the state Department of Education to perhaps hire outgoing Delaware State Education Association President Diane Donohue into a Department of Education position.
According to a statement from the department, “Secretary of Education Lillian Lowery believes the Department of Education would be fortunate to have Diane Donohue serve in that role. With years of direct teaching experience and years of work to ensure teachers' voices are heard and respected, Diane would, in this role, be a great advocate for Delaware's children and their teachers and a driving force for responsible change. She was at the helm of leading education reform in Delaware with our teachers from the beginning of this change process.”
Unlike teacher unions in other states, the DSEA, under Donohue, did support reforms that led to the approval of Delaware’s Race to the Top application.
Even so, the process resulted in pushback earlier this year when the Christina School Board rejected the process of hiring teachers for Glasgow High and Stubbs, both targeted for turnaround efforts. That led to a brief suspension of Race to the Top funding for those efforts. The situation was eventually resolved.

This lady will put the kids last like all the union teachers do.
How is it legal that a union who's employees are paid with tax payer money can negotiate their salary and retirement with the people that they contribute re-election funds too?
