Wicomico County Executive Rick Pollitt Just Kicked Off His New Campaign For Annapolis

You mark my words, Rick Pollitt will NOT run for County Executive another term.

Why?

In yesterday's meeting Rick went on and on about how he really wanted to dedicate more time to represent Wicomico County.

The more I thought about it, the more it started making sense to me. Rick wants a legislative job in Annapolis and retire off of a state pension.

What other reason would he want the taxpayers to hire his replacement while he's in Office as County Executive. The voters in the last election clearly told Rick, he'll not serve again, even if it means voting in someone not qualified for the job.

If Rick gets someone in to do HIS JOB, that allows him the time to lobby for his new job in Annapolis and quite frankly I think some of the Council Members that voted to allow this to happen are just plain stupid.

There is no other excuse for this and IMHO, the taxpayers should be totally pissed off about what just took place today. The County Council just gave Rick Pollitt the opportunity to start campaigning immediately.

Yeah, he and Henderson can be dog catchers on a state level. This big boy can't do anything but go to NY for Labor Day and compete in the hot dog eating contest. Only in Wicomico County could someone as stupid as Pollitt be elected to any office bigger than student council historian. I really can't wait for him to go. a##hole!!!!

Annapolis would eat him alive and then some. He is clearly not ready for the PTA let alone the once sacred halls of the Maryland State house.

If you think the outhouse joke made by Fmr Gov Shaffer were bad, just wait till Ricky gets there. Seriously people, wake up!!!

As usual, you are EXACTLY right.
He doesn't do much of anything himself. That's why he talked Ted Shea into staying so long. Somebody had to do the budget (and he couldn't do it himself.)
He did the same thing in Fruitland-- went to all the meetings and free meals, and had the people in the subordinate positions doing almost all the work.
His new staff structure is precisely designed to do just that.
He's sucking up to O'Malley trying to get a plum.
It will probably work, too.

You bitch and moan if he does run; you bitch and moan when you think he might not run - 3 YEARS from now. You don't know what you want. If Pollitt decides to not run again for this job, I'm sure his only motivation for running for something else is to get a pension. (That's sarcasm, there, in case you couldn't tell.) Are you for real????

If Rick hires someone with strong qualifications for the newly created budget position - that person needs to be the first in line for succession - not Sharon Morris.

I know it is a long shot, but just maybe he'll hire someone with experience and knowledge who can help us get out of this mess.

One name I heard as the leading candidate is just who we need - he would make an excellent county exec. A business man with b@lls.

Maybe the four who voted for not cutting his budget are hoping this happens. Maybe they have a little vision...

If only....

5:36pm And maybe the three who voted against this had very good solid reasons for doing so. After reading the article in the Daily Times today I would guess Mr. Pollitt didn't have his plan in order--"no salary range for these new positions." And, "Normally, new positions are discussed at the start of the budget process, not the end." Sounds like a mess to me.

How do you create jobs without a job description and a grade assignment based on the actual job? The County HR Manager needs to be fired for not doing his job OR Pollitt for telling him not to! This is the dumbest thing I've ever seen. Run a vote tomorrow for those who would sign a "no confidence petition" Joe or GA.

I think Sharon Morris has more on the ball then most in that building jackkcharl@aol.com

These greedy policitians bashers jumps from one state or federal job and retires. Then, they come to Wicomico County to invest in our retirement plan for five years and then retire. Just to return to their old state or federal job to work until they can't work any longer. Meanwhile, these bashers two retirement checks are sitting in a bank drawing interest. It's a smart plan. However, for every retired twice individuals who goes back to work at their old high paying job, it leaves 5 poeple out of work and unemployed. These greedy bashers should be ashame of themselves with all the layoffs, furloughs, no pay raises, no cost of living increase and unemployment. Wicomico County Sucks. But, at least three county counsel members voted against pollitt's plan. And, we the voters will remember this move come election.

Didn't they all vote for the sweet retirement deal? Where were the wise men/women then?

When Rick;s position was "created" it was a BIG MISTAKE. We do not need this position period. SAVE MONEY! Get rid of the position.......
Signed county tax payer who has been here forever.

"...hire his replacement"...? His is an elected position and the voters will decide.

Referendum to abolish executive level of county government. We've had nothing but budget problems since. The lead weight on the budget IS the executive level. We were doing better without it.

927, you are right! There was always debate but this monster of a man only knows how to mess things up. He has made everything worse since he came into office. Yes, I voted against the Executive position and voted against Pollitt both times. I've known him over 25 years and he's never going to be a person who will be qualified, no matter whether his personality fools the entire county into voting him into office. Fruitland people can tell you this is true. Especially the people in the office who he "rode hard" and then moved on.
