A Letter To The Editor

Hello Joe:

I have been reading your blog for quite some time now and wanted to share with you an experience I had this morning.  Around 10 am I went to Sun Trust to do some business.  As a retiree I can go about any time, but wanted to beat the heat.  As I parking my car in a designated spot an EMS vehicle (license # LG 72100) roared up behind me and parked with the engine running at the curb blocking the handicap ramp near the entrance rather than park in the spaces provided.  I thought an emergency had taken place at the bank, but when I walked into the bank I saw a young fellow conducting a personal transaction at the teller window.  I do not understand how someone can park so brazenly and use taxpayer money to drive a government work vehicle to do personal business.

Thanks for your time!

If you spend a few hours on "payday" at the SECU on Mt. Hermon Road, you would see every Government vehicle you could think of including fire trucks and dump trucks parked wherever they fit while drivers and passengers conduct personal banking business. I suppose the rationale is that they need to have their equipment nearby in the event they are called out during the time they are conducting personal business on the taxpayer's dime.

The same way the county deputys turn the lights on in the patrol cars in order to get all other cars stopped on the road so they can make a left hand turn at the end of Northwood Drive onto Naylor Mill Road.

Taxpayers should Not be footing the bill for these dudes transportation vehicles!!!
Is anybody out there listening????
We Are Tired of the Waste in this County! It's time somebody does something & taxpayers demand they do!!

I was making a much needed stop at Rita's the other day. I observed a fire truck parked there with the windows open and unsecured. The fire department personnel were also enjoying the product available there.

While I do not begrudge them firemen stopping for refreshment, I wonder how much the taking the fire truck to go there, cost us.

i think this is petty. you don't know all the details. perhaps the EMS was on his way back to the station from the firehouse & was going back that way. what's the harm in him stopping for a minute? he definitely should NOT have parked by the curb though, especially blocking the handicap ramp!

@FOR THE PEOPLE: perhaps the firetruck was on its way back from a call and was stopping to get a cool refreshment. and as far as the windows down, THEY WERE RIGHT THERE! anyone brazen enough to try anything with country boy firefighters around won't get very far.

give me a break people! i mean, i guess its quite possible that they were like "hey guys, lets take the firetruck & get some ritas" - but i highly doubt that.

these people rush to our aid at all hours of the day/night. if they want a d@mn ritas or to stop to make a deposit at the bank so be it!

This is just too petty for me giving it any concern, Ever hear about two sides to every story? I do wish more people would try to learn the other side before complaining, Mr/Ms letter writer and Rita's visitor, you both had ample opportunity to ask the persons you are complaining about.

The author of the letter has it absolutely correct. Just because these people are in an emergency vehicle dose not give them the right to break laws. I have no problem with them stopping at the bank or Rita's but I have a huge problem with them thinking they are above the law. If you left your personal vehicle unsecured and windows down like the fire truck you could be issued a ticket for it(Maryland Law)so why should a fire truck be any different? If you park in or block handicap zones you can be fined for it so why is the EMS vehicle any different?

I guess next time they should roll the windows up and take the keys with them...

most government vehicles are NOT to be used to personal business according to their regulations. even you have have one to drive home your must go home, get your personal vehicle, then go out to do your personal errands.

Points to take into account:
1) There are so many "private" ambulance companies out there now, but thanks for noticing the tag#. They should not park in that fashion.
2) Rita's provides free refreshments to fire fighters in uniform & that is very nice to partake of.
3) The fire truck is always ready to respond even while sitting at Rita's. If it was my child chocking at Giant, I would appreciate them being so close.
4) The Salisbury fire department has to promote themselves & get out there so the public can see them (this is for all those "taxpayers" that claim firemen sit around watching TV & drinking).
5) Fire engines do not have "keys" so there is nothing the driver can put in his pocket.

Please go on the internet & educate yourselves before throwing stones. Other than parking in the wrong place, nothing is going on here...just move along.

What ticks me off is those dang armoured cars parking behind people legally parked and blocking them in.If you need to see your partner that bad, get some helmet cams.

I work on the 3rd floor of a building that they stop at many times a week and even been in the elevator with them before. That's what I don't understand. How CAN the partner see them on mulitple floors and an elevator?

Are you saying they park and block others while they go to the third floor?
