Somerset County Passes FY2012 Budget

This afternoon the Somerset County Commissioners unanimously passed their general fund and roads budgets for FY2012.  The general fund budget for FY2012 is $36.2 million.  The roads budget for FY 2012 is $5.4 million.

For FY2011, the general fund budget was $46.0 million.  Gene Adkins, Somerset County Finance Director, explained that Somerset County, unlike Wicomico County, does not have a separate capital budget.  All capital expenditures are part of either the general fund budget or the roads budget.  Because of this, the general fund budget may swing significantly from year to year.

How much is the roads budget for Wicomico, compared to Somerset?

Seems to me Wicomico's was much less??

Wicomico roads budget is less in total. Part of the roads budget in Wicomico County is for fuel, for all county departments. The actual realized budget is less than Somersets, with more miles to maintain, and a greater degree of infrastructure. Fasten your seat belts ladies and gentlemen. Wicomico is in for a bumpy ride. (but look at it this way, with the low taxes, you should be able to afford the wheel alignments and new tires)

Yeah, but I'm not sure they are comparable. I didn't ask Gene to give me much detail about the Roads budget. Like the difference accounting for capital projects, we may be looking at apples and oranges.

As I noted in the post, I had no idea that Somerset didn't have a capital budget until Gene explained that yesterday afternoon.

Well, at any rate, it seems that you all are getting your wish. The County will not be maintaining their revenue this year, even after shaving tens of millions out of their budget over the last 4 years. The council is a bunch of grandstanders. Catering to the group of people that spoke at last nights meeting. Half of those people don't even understand some of the things they are talking about. And Joe Holloway, just because the county says they are going to make due with what they have after people retire, it isn't because those people weren't needes, it is because the ones that are left are going to get dumped on. Most people are already doing multiple jobs, now it is going to be ridiculous. That guy Matt Trenka is so redundant. He says the same crap over and over, of which most is just plain stupid. His argument with REDSPEED, why can't he realize that you have to have legislation to allow for photoradar before you even think about where you are going to get it. And what was the comparison to convienience stores? What a weirdo.
