Salisbury City Council Passes a Prudent Budget

We watched in amazement as Shanie Shields refused to join the other members in amending the budget, as proposed by the mayor, to achieve goals that will greatly benefit City residents and property owners – more police presence, less furlough days for City employees, etc. This is real budgetary responsibility that has not been seen since before the infamous “Dream Team” and Barrie Tilghman played havoc with the budget every year, which resulted in the tax rate increase four years ago.

Finally, a Council that can compromise in a civil manner to reach a reasonable result, even if Ms. Shields is too dense to see that.

Tacitus is a Salisbury resident and frequent contributor to SbyNEWS.

Never seen his name on here before so it ain't too frequent. Doesn't make sense to say Tacitus than post as G A, (who we know does not like Ms. Shields and always places the blame on her).

Shanie is too dense to even sit on the council, so it doesn't surprise me at all that she wouldn't go along with what's best for the city. Shanie is all about Shanie, period. You can fool some of the people some of the time, but you can't fool all of the people all the time. Remember that Shanie.

Tacitus, I enjoyed your recap. Shields didn't vote for the budget because the meetigns took too long, what does that mean? She doesn't keep her word plain and simple. Can't be trusted by the public or her colleagues. She would rather be playing the slots. heard her say so myself one day when she was complaining about being at a meeting.

I feel real sorry for Miss Terry. She's got a liar on council and a name-calling infant in the mayor's seat. Couldn't pay me enough to do her job.

Another childish power struggle. Cohen said last night Council got the Mayors budget and had to change it.
Lets have one budget request, presented by Pick, that can be discussed openly by the Mayor and all the Council Members.
That will stop the petty politics and posturing.

Not a power struggle at all. It is a matter of a prudent, well thought through budget by council as compared to one offered by the Mayor that appeared to be full of treats for his special friends and pet projects without regard for our tax dollars.

Shanie most likely got advice for her vote from Louise and or Gary.

11:34, are you a little batty? This is how the budget gets done by law. The power struggle is all Ireton's. He thinks everything he does should get done as is no change lots of flower petals and a press release. Watching him and his cronies beating up on council women is sickening. At least the council is mellower now.
