“Declinism” is everywhere in Republican presidential politics these days.
Former Minnesota governor Tim Pawlenty used the word while defending his ambitious economic plan at last week’s debate; “This president is a declinist,” Pawlenty said. “He views America as one of equals around the world.”
The term was also regularly invoked at this weekend’s Republican Leadership Conference in New Orleans — particularly by Rep.Thaddeus McCotter (R-Mich.), a longshot potential presidential candidate.
All of the “declinism” talk prompts a simple question: What is it exactly?

It is a made-up term the GOP is now using because even they get tired of saying "socialist, socialist, Muslim, Muslim" all the time.
Here is what I don't get. The economy is in the toilet and there are no jobs. It seems that beating Obama will be easy as long as the GOP focuses on those things. So, why aren't they.
We know you don't like Obama. We know you think he is a horrible person. Why keep playing that tune when you can actually focus on things you would actually do to fix things? (and fix them for everyone, not just the Tea Party faithful?)
The election process could be pretty fun and interesting if the current GOP candidates stop being caricatures of GOP candidates and start trying to lead.
Dare I say, "its the economy, stupid."
If they spent more time creating solutions instead of making up words and calling each other names, we'd all be better off.
