SAPOA's Candidates

The landlords and SAPOA sent a clear message to their tenants as to who to vote for. Did YOU get one of these from another landlord? If so, please send a copy to alberoburtzo@wmconnect.com.

Nice to know my landlady cares so much about me - enough to help me make the decision of who to vote for.

This MUST be illegal! Please tell me it is.

Sorry, but campaigning (known in the U.S. as encouraging other people to vote one way or another) for the candidate that you like is not illegal, whether its on paper or not. Unless Mrs. Bratten (who I happen to know personally and find to be a lovely, caring, helpful woman)attached a dollar bill to that letter or stood outside of the poll with a club waiting to punish dissenters (she wasn't, I went) then this piece of paper doesn't mean a thing.

maddiesmatters, you need to learn more about election laws.

Joseph Albero said...

Oh, I should add, in Salisbury, that is.

Like what? What are the laws she's breaking? I'm curious.

All in due time.

Even if it is legal, it is unseemly. I wonder if she clearly marks off tenants bills of rights for people who rent from her? But just wait, the SAPOA dirty tricks are just beginning. As far as I am concerned, this checklist is a very helpful list of who NOT to vote for. Also, pay attention to the absentee ballots. Want to bet that SAPOA plans to fill them out for their tenants?

Hopefully this pandering to tenants will drive them away from the SAPOA stooges -- Boda & Dryden -- and help the other candidates.

Tenants obviously aren't voting....didn't you guys see the turn outs? Who cares

I was told there was something like this in the lobby of the Hotel Esther apartments on Church Street.

Don't see how this is a dirty trick...city citizens, whom are mostly renters, need to get out and VOTE. Their voices arent being represented with the current election turnouts. I wish more prople would get involved. SAPOA may be doing this for their own best interests but what's wrong with getting people to vote? I wish more people would get involved from both sides. And tenants need to know what's going on because if affect them greatly.

I know for a fact that scum bag Dale Dashiell who owns Rental Management (Milford Twilley properties) is working overtime to make his tenants vote for the SAPOA candidates.

He owns Moss Hill Townhouses, Brookridge II and College Lane Apartments as well as numerous rental houses through out the ghetto's of Salisbury.

@ 6:45....again..what's wrong with this? I'm just not seeing it. People try and get others to vote for their candidate of choice every election...I have got crap in the mail before about candidates...people create pages on facebook to support their candidates. If Dale and a group of people were holding up signs supporting Boda would that offend you? Encouraging people to get out and vote is a good thing. Do you think the tenants of Salisbury are to stupid to cast an educated vote when they go to the polls? Do you think they will get the letter promoting Boda and run to the poll and vote for him because it came from their landlord? It seems to me that landlords are trying to get their tenants out to the polls....because the don't appear to be doing it. S.

@9:09 PM

Something tells me you are connected to the slum lords and you don't live within the city limits of Salisbury.

Gotcha!!

@6:56...I'm not a landlord..but I do live in Eden now. And for a reason. I was born in the prmc and I work in Salisbury so I still care what happens in my town ( and much of mynfamily and friends live si sby). I also pay city taxes for my office bldg and my business property ( tools, trailers, etc) every year....so sby matts affect me whether I have a vote or not. I moved out of Salisbury 3 years ago because I got tired of paying city taxes and receiving crap service in return. Something tells me you live in th historic district and voted for Cohen..."gotcha!.....lmao, who says gotcha? I take that back, you are a 13 year old and your mom lives in the historic district and voted for Cohen.

*matters not matts...hard to type on iPhone...

Nothing wrong with encouraging voting, but something definitely wrong with telling them how to vote, telling LIES like their rent will go up if someone is elected (I know for a fact they did that last time around--any landlords here care to come on and explain exactly how Mayor Ireton raised the rent at your building? Oh, that is right, he didn't). I also know they drove their tenants to the polls, offer reduced rent if they voted a certain way, and paid for all sorts of things that were never declared on the candidates' financial statements. Also, look at the post below: they are currently giving the max donation in their secretaries names. So no, I have no patience for SAPOA candidates Boda, Dixon, and Dryden. I would respect them if they got out there like the other candidates and did the work, not let SAPOA manipulate the democratic process.

If any of you had actually listened to the campaign promises of Cohen, Cambell, or Ireton when they were running for office last time around you would know that rent actually would have gone up for tenants because the team of Camden Ave. representatives you voted for were going to raise rates for landlord licensing, property registration, and a whole bunch of other things which have now been lumped into the "Safe Streets Neighborhood Legislative Package." Contrary to the belief that landlords are all independently wealthy and can afford to jump through whatever financial hoops the city puts in front of them, they have to pay bills just like any other industry, and accordingly, when their bills go up, it transfers directly into their charges for service- when you live in a house provided by someone else, a service is being provided, and the charge for it is called rent. So yea, the candidates in the last election were going to cause rent to go up for tenants, and guess what? Now that they are elected they are still trying to do the same thing. If any of you actually read through the Safe Streets bill, you would know that. You don't have to look far. It starts on page 2 and continues for the next 30 or so pages. Check it.

@9:00...no one appears to be participating in the democratic process..that's the problem. U make accusations with no evidence. Encouraging someone to vote for a candidate is what u do when ur campaigning. And if rooming houses are done away with....don't apartments cost more than rooms? It's no secret that the current council and mayor doesnt like landlords...they create or raise fees on landlords every year. When the costs of making bread goes up doesn't the price of bread go up?

Does that rise in rent include the $25 per month increase that some landlords said was a "New city rental tax", when the actual registration fee was $25 per YEAR?

Ask Gary Chandler about that one.
