WANT TO KNOW WHAT RICK POLLITT’S “PIO” DOES

Last week Mr. Pollitt told us that the public information officer on his staff is an absolutely essential part of Wicomico County’s governmental bureaucracy “now more than ever.” This week those who heard the Bill Reddish’s interview of Rick and James Fineran (the PIO) learned how the latter earns his pay ($60,000 plus benefits) by furnishing a vital public service. Here’s a summary.

Warning: before reading further, if you’re not sitting, please do so now.

After discourse by Pollitt about the benefits of public information, the focus shifted to what the PIO actually does. Fineran stated that his personal “skill set” enables him to “stand in” for Pollitt, who “can’t be everywhere.” As an example of what he meant, Fineran mentioned attending “ribbon cuttings” that Rick could not attend.

Fineran then said that he also answers questions by the public about the nooks and crannies of the County bureaucracy – “where to get a building permit” was given as an example. You must wonder if his “skill set” includes doing windows as well as using scissors on ribbons.

[I did suggest that folks sit down before reading this]

Eventually, Pollitt, by some sixth sense, must have heard radio listeners laughing loudly, and he attempted to extricate the interview from the hole being dug by Fineran. Rick pointed out that Fineran writes press releases that are sent to the news media and reiterated the worth of public information in our daily lives. One never knows when he or she might suddenly need a building permit but not know where to get it.

At that point, I was distracted by a very loud sucking noise coming from my wallet – the interview aired on April 15, after all. It will be rebroadcast on Sunday, April 18, in the very early morning, I believe, on WICO – 1320 AM.

PS – Unfortunately for Wicomico County residents, this is not satire!

If I want to know about the latest news releases I can go to sby news for nothing and without all the BS

PIO needs to go! I can look up the building permits person in the phone book or on line! for nothing!

The big question is, what did Jim do before he started as PIO? What are his skillsets?

Fineran sits in his office and picks his nose while reading sbynews. Sometimes you see him going to the bathroom and getting a drink of water. Its funny how all the websites to personal email are blocked for the normal employee, including sbynews, but the third floor has access to anything they want to look at, including their personal email.

Rick

I would be ashamed of myself.

LOL, i have to....cause if i started to cry, i don't think i could stop...... Ricky needs to quit looking for pennies in the budget and go after the dollars....... and he needs to teach his departments that it is not necessary to spend your total allocated budget if the item is not a necessity,(your departments do this ricky, wakeup) Ricky also needs to take a hard look at Take Home Vehicles, there is very few reasons why someone would need to drive somewhere immediately from home, thus requiring a Take Home Vehicle. People need to get over themselves with these take home vehicles. Ricky needs to realize that part of being the Big Boss is having to do the unpleasant stuff.

If any stupid tax i pay gets raised any more, i'm going to be looking for hand outs, health care (free) food (free) help with all utilities

Gee, I wonder how big the set of knee pads are that go with that job? Or do they just need to be replaced frequently?
